I’m still not sure I understand how this moderates fake news, hate, disinformation. Is there a paper somewhere?

@richt @Gargron it would be impossible to eliminate fake news, but Mastodon has no ad revenue, and no algorithm for promoting ideas, or people that help advertisers. Humans are entertained by sensational content. If it bleeds it reads. And this is the stuff that makes Twitter and Facebook tons of ad revenue. So they encourage and reinforce it. Take the ads away and at least we have a better chance of remaining civil towards one another. Plenty of literature here. |
@richt @Gargron I Google it for you https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/moderating/ but finally Mastodon is open source and every instance is responsible for moderation. There will be isolated hate or fake driven instances, like in every decentralized organization.
