@richt @Gargron it would be impossible to eliminate fake news, but Mastodon has no ad revenue, and no algorithm for promoting ideas, or people that help advertisers.

Humans are entertained by sensational content. If it bleeds it reads. And this is the stuff that makes Twitter and Facebook tons of ad revenue. So they encourage and reinforce it. Take the ads away and at least we have a better chance of remaining civil towards one another.
