@danbruno haha yes! So did you get and/or watch online the extra Ourobouros scene at the end of the game?

Dan Bruno

@darius I did! I saw it in game, though not until I learned about it online because it's so buried—beat the game, then load your clear file and beat the 'true' final boss (which I guess has its own unlock criteria), and then load your clear file _again_, and then watch/skip past the end credits…yikes!

But yeah I dunno what's going on there. The music threw me. Is the Grandmaster Aidios?

Darius Kazemi

@danbruno ohhhh haha I only beat the true final boss. Which btw was really weird structure-wise with how they handled the whole thing? I almost wonder if it's a commentary on the "possible worlds" that Campanella mentions.

The consensus among fans seems to be that Grandmaster is Aidios, yes. Although she says she's like a minor echo of herself. I guess this means we will eventually fight the main church's god like in all JRPGs.

Darius Kazemi

@danbruno aside: the English voice actor for Gaius plays the main character in Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which I'm currently playing and it's really throwing me

Dan Bruno

@darius Yeah I feel like Trails runs headfirst into enough JRPGs tropes that if we _didn't_ fight god at some point it would be a letdown 😂

I also expect a big reveal at some point that the _goal_ of Ouroboros's plan is good, actually, it's just that their methods are suspect—but if you use the power of friendship you can find a third path and save the world with less sacrifice, etc, etc

Darius Kazemi

@danbruno yup that sounds about right. Looking forward (?) to eventually having Campanella on the team I guess

Dan Bruno

@darius on a long enough timeline every character in the series will become a party member

Darius Kazemi

@danbruno I like Cedric joining Ourobouros even though it doesn't make a ton of sense.

Do you think Lianne, Rutger, and Osborne are actually really for real dead? I think it would be hilarious if they came back at some point.

Dan Bruno

@darius Yeah Cedric still seems like too much of a chump to be useful to anyone. Mariabell implies in that end scene that his Arnor blood makes him useful/powerful so maybe they pull more on that thread? I like it too though, I think his heel turn is great haha

Dan Bruno replied to Dan

@darius Arianrhod et al: I should know better than to bet on someone staying dead in this franchise but I feel like those deaths will stick. At best I could imagine them coming back again for a chat in that little spirit plane area where Rean sometimes hangs out to repair his soul or whatever the hell

Darius Kazemi replied to Dan

@danbruno I'm such a sucker for this stuff but I *loved* all the crossover stuff with the main characters from previous arcs. Especially the interlude-reunion on the ship in the middle

Dan Bruno replied to Darius

@darius 100%, that was some of my favorite stuff in this game. That is the kind of fanservice I want!

Also love those little last hurrah sidequests in the final chapter, where the SSS goes to Crossbell to solve a mystery and the Liberl gang has that pseudo-Phantasma segment by Hamel

I saw that Hajimari claims to have even more characters somehow (?!)

Darius Kazemi replied to Dan

@danbruno it's structured a bit like 3rd so I imagine they can just shoehorn in random people pretty easily. Also from the preview images we are getting Rixia and few others who were conspicuously missing from CS4.

I gotta say, I loved all the Rean/Cassius stuff but also him getting Divine Blade was a little confusing and anticlimactic. Like, whatever, I'm not mad about it but... eh.

Oh I liked the Calvard related side quests too, and the Remiferia stuff!

Dan Bruno replied to Darius

@darius Yeah, I expected to see the B team from the Crossbell arc in Lloyd's route—Rixia, Wazy, Noel, Dudley, and Arios is already a bunch of people not in CS4. But I also feel like they would be offset by losing some other folks—hard to imagine they'll give us, say, Xeno/Leo and Ines/Ennea again…but maybe I'm wrong!

I guess even if not there are new characters too—I see we have another masked character who goes by "C", heh—and that'll make up the difference

Dan Bruno replied to Dan

@darius I feel like I had to meet them more than halfway on the Divine Blade stuff. My read is that getting closer to mastery of Eight Leaves starts to veer into metaphysics instead of sword technique, and that the "void" form is what allows Rean to e.g. shake off Ishmelga. You gotta get so good at the sword that you can attack the plot directly instead of just monsters. 😂

Definitely excited for Calvard! There's a bit of news about the next game if you haven't seen. Kuro no Kiseki!

Darius Kazemi replied to Dan

@danbruno yeah I saw the Kuro news! Honestly tired of Erebonia after spending like 400 hours there so yes please. I like that they said it will be a standalone game and not part 1 of a 2 parter. The idea is for there to be an arc but it won't be a CS1+2, 3+4 structure

Dan Bruno replied to Darius

@darius They may say that now, but it never seems to pan out that way for them! haha

Cautiously optimistic about changes to the battle system. I don't tend to like ARPGs so I'm hoping it doesn't go too far in that direction, but the existing system is kind of collapsing under its own weight as they keep adding new mechanics to it

Darius Kazemi replied to Dan

@danbruno yeah same. They absolutely need a new battle system but I hope it's not full Ys or Xanadu because I just can't deal with that
