@pixelfed Idea: hide the popular servers. Incentivise the ones that are smaller and less popular.

@aral @pixelfed Hmmm, well, maybe based a little more criteria like stability, uptodate version, etc...

Basically I could imagine a general distribution based on:
- legislation (where is the server located)?
- is it stable?
- runs reasonable recent version?
- is registration open and what type of registration (invite only, free, registration through 3rd party like LDAP/SAML)?
- paid or free?

This should be best determined automatically before offering the user a server.

@pixelfed by the way: Is there a way for an admin of Pixelfed to manually approve a registration? So that new people who want to register need to send a short text or so why they would like to join the instance. Friendica has that feature which is quite cool.
