@liaizon I like to also call it the "open social web", but pretty much any alternative name I can think of is longer and clunkier than the sweet and short, 4-character term "fedi". A difficult problem to solve indeed. Naming always is.

@liaizon 3 syllables is just too long. People also say "insta" when they refer to Instagram for example. Facebook only has 2 syllables, which is why they don't need a shorthand in daily conversation. But basically all popular names don't exceed 2 syllables. This is also why the term XMPP is so much worse than saying Jabber, when used in conversation. |
@raucao thats pretty good actually, just to talk about the whole ecosystem of alternative infrastructure that is in the commons. as an introduction to it that's probably a better place to start then the fediverse anyway
