@ntnsndr I guess I see scabbing as a way of disenfranchising laborers and giving power back to the bosses. I don't see individual labor producing value for oneself as giving power to the bosses, and it only disenfranchises others if you see things as a big zero sum game. That said I don't understand the economics of Substack -- if they are angling to be a media company rather than a payment processor and email list distributor, I'm much more open to calling it scabbing.
@ntnsndr basically if substack essentially sees journalists as contractors who create content that helps substack, rather than seeing themselves as a service provided to journalists who want to make money and own their own content, then it's at the very least a kind of scabbing-in-the-future
