@matt While reading this I noticed, "For some time after the tomato was brought to Europe from the Americas in the 16th century, it was believed by many Europeans to be poisonousโฆ" Which brave soul decided to try it I wonder ๐ค @ruari I guess Edwin Starr never got chance to read Wikipedia. If so, โthe popularisation of pizzaโ would be the answer to โWar, huh! What is it good for?โ instead of โAbsolutely nothingโ @ruari on the subject of #wikipedia โฆ 1) Do you donate to Wikipedia?? 2) Whatโs a good alternative to Wikipedia?? I remember once doing a search for sites that were running #mediawiki and finding a bunch of specialist subject wikis. 1) I have donated to Wikipedia before but must admit I have not done so now for years now. 2) No idea other than not Conservapedia. @ruari Wikipedia is great because โanyone can edit itโ but on the handful of occasions Iโve added or edited information, itโs often been removed for being โnot notableโ (as in a random moderator in the USA didnโt care for my cited UK local knowledge) or it got removed because the โwriting styleโ felt โpromotionalโ. Iโve never felt welcomed when editing Wikipedia. @matt I have made a few edits and perhaps been lucky with them. No problems. P.S. Happy now, you made me feel guilty and I did this @ruari Nice! ๐ ๐ ๐ I see youโre using Kagi too for search! Is it worth subscribing? I give all my searches to Ecosia right now. @matt I doubt they can ever be a big company because I don't think most people would understand why they should pay (or that they are paying anyway in other ways) but this was not your question. Worth it? Well for me it is. ๐ @matt If your question was about quality. It is quite surprisingly good! @ruari Iโm going to set it as my default and see how it is (And also steal some of their features and claim them as my own ideas in work) @matt The latter idea is a particularly good one. ๐ @matt At WikiIndex there's a list of local/regional #wiki sites. https://wikiindex.org/Regiowikis |
@ruari โThe word pizza was first documented in 997 AD in Gaeta. Pizza was mainly eaten in Italy and by emigrants from there. This changed after World War II when Allied troops stationed in Italy came to enjoy pizza along with other Italian foods.โ
997 - 1945 is quite a run before making it on the international stage. Iโve only been going 36 years. Thereโs still time for me to become a household name globally.
