I wonder if getas(wooden sandals) would be good boat shoes.. Half the time I only need shoes to get across beds of barnacles. I just need something that's easy to repair.

@dualhammers like jikatabi? I have a pair in my feet right now, I only wear them inside. The only ones I know of have a plastic sole and I can't imagine how I'd repair them if they broke, and I wouldn't want to walk on oyster shells with them. @neauoire Yeah, I was thinking heavy duty ones with thick rubber soles. You could also maybe do a thick cork sandal. My concern with getas is the wood can get very slippery in wet environments @neauoire @dualhammers I bet u could make and repair of espadrilles using whatever materials you prefer. 🤔 Getas can be easily made with some floatsam and a saw… but I think to use them on the boat it would be better to have more "teeth", not just the usual two. Uhm… I think to walk on barnacles getas with triangular teeth will give you more grip (and less damage to poor barnacles). @GustavinoBevilacqua yeah that's the ones I was thinking, I wonder if I could make myself a pair.. @neauoire @GustavinoBevilacqua I made a pair of those back in the day, it needs a bit of experimenting to get the balance right but it's totally in your range i think :) @neauoire where I am from, this is traditional: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espadrille I know some people use them because they are fresh, resistant, and cheap-ish. I assume it should be easy to repair as well, as the cloth can be patched. @neauoire my primary shoes are chala sandals. i bought these ones, but when they wear through i intend to make my own next time, out of whatever junk material i have available essentially they are insoles with paracord knotted in a particular way. i like them for the simplicity, they work well to protect my feet in town without restricting them https://chala.de/en/chala-run/ (beware, some other products on site are leather) @neauoire hemp sandals are easy enough to fix if you keep a little ball of hemp thread on the boat. also, you could experiment with making full scale hemp shoes. can’t be too difficult. @brisling I don't have a car, or access to discarded tires atm, but I'll keep an eye out :) |
@neauoire fisherman tabis would probably last longer. Might be relatively easy to repair with a good sewing machine?
