@mcc it's like how for a while, after using the voice assistant it would ask me how satisfied I was, "say a number from one to five" but if I say 5 it then searched Google Maps for "5 near me"

@onelson @mcc I'm fond of "Remind me to [do thing] tomorrow at 9am" "OK, I'll remind you to '[do thing] tomorrow at 9am'. When do you want to be reminded?"

@onelson @mcc It won't even let me use that anymore. It just disappeared & got replaced with the regular Google Search one day. Google Lens is still there though.

@jackemled @mcc I had the same experience but later learned I could summon the assistant via a long press of the power button

@onelson @mcc My Google Pixel makes the power menu show up for that now. It used to show the Google Assistant menu though. Google can't stop changing shit randomly & A/B testing for no reason. It doesn't affect me much since I don't use Google Assistant at all after they made it near useless, but it's still annoying for some menus to be inconsistent.

I added the Assistant app to my home screen so I can actually use it.

I thought making Assistant harder to use was a play to get people using Gemini, but turning that on just replaces Assistant and also isn't accessible via search. They've long had a problem with "I don't know" Assistant answers, but instead of falling back to search (like on Hub Max) they relegated Assistant.

In the end they forced AI Snippets enabled for everyone, so that was the long term strategy?
