@Daojoan @Daojoan wait hang on: how was it "female-initiated disruption of a male hierarchy" instead of "women playing games"? They make it sound like a conspiracy to eject men from gaming.

@FeralRobots @Daojoan You might be interpreting the term differently than the authors.

Disruption might just mean, that women enter a space that used to be almost exclusively occupied by men and this changes the dynamics.

And it's female initiated, because they start playing games out of their own motivation and not because men asked them to.

@fissile @Daojoan
yeh that did occur to me. I do still wonder why that wording was chosen - it's basically bait, whether intentionally or not. One of those cases where usages-of-art are highly problematic for a lay audience. (E.g. once got into a roaring argument w/ex-SO over me using 'personhood' as it's used in social anthropology, to describe someone's degree of agency in society. She insisted on parsing it as a judgement I was making about those individuals' moral worth.)

@FeralRobots @Daojoan I mean, in the original post, it's a quote. So I think for the original work that is being quoted, it is probably the appropriate term.

In the post that is doing the quoting, I don't know. Could be as you say and someone uses it on purpose, because it can be misunderstood, but it is also possible that that person is not aware of the problem.
