@dbattistella @appassionato And currently blatant corruption is legal. Corporations can spend unlimited amounts of money on political candidates and then receive legislative favors in return. @aburtch @appassionato Yes, blatant corruption is the sign of a crumbling democracy, and very possibly, of a declining empire. @dbattistella people also seen to forget that everything that Hitler and Stalin did was legal. @dbattistella yep. And I feel like you could have an equally poignant poster replacing "legal" with "Christian". @mok0 @dbattistella Iβm not sure he would. He doesnβt claim that he broke the law but thatβs ok because he did it for moral reasons. His claims are more along the lines of βI never did that and even if I did, the law doesnβt apply to meβ @mok0 @dbattistella @jpkolsen 100% agree with Morten, that kind of messaging is a double-edged sword, particularly at a time when the leader of so-called free-world is looking at dismantling the #judiciary. There is much MUCH more to be lost by undermining the #ruleoflaw or the trust therein. If you live in the USA, you will experience this soon enough. @sheislaurence @dbattistella @jpkolsen Actually it's what Trump has been working systematically on during the last four years. First of all, diminishing all the judges in his own court cases, then calling the Jan 6. insurrectionists "hostages". His aim is to break down the rule of law, and it's authoritarian dictator 101. @dbattistella And how do you suggest we determine what is justice, and how to acheive and enforce it, in the absence of law? @dbattistella Some strong words right here! Yes, everything is controlled by the strong. Honestly, I really don't have much hope for the future since with all the achievements we had through out the years, we still have apartheid and slavery. @dbattistella Money + (Power/Influence) = Justice Money + (Power/Influence) != Democracy π @dbattistella I always say if you want to know the difference between what is legal and what is ethical, go talk to an accountant. @dbattistella They get paid to ensure the legality of immoral behavior. @koen_hufkens @dbattistella In finance (business) many things are legal which are not ethical. Take "tax optimization" where large companies or persons deflate their income to not pay "income" tax. This is only the tip of the iceberg. @dbattistella The HOLOCAUST was legal. Legal does not mean ethical or moral, never has. @dbattistella oh that is some nice phrasing that we hadn't heard in past expressions of this sentiment. thanks for that. @dbattistella YES! This was the biggest thing I learned from supporting my partner thru law school, bar prep, & job in criminal defense: Legal β Ethical @moss Yes, and addressing inequality in our society, and there's no other way around it, dismantling capitalism, is the surest way to get our laws to reflect our ethics. The felony murder rule is legal... at least in the United States. Most everywhere else it's deemed unethical. This is why we need jury nullification, folks, and why corrupt judges use every tactic to try to prevent it. When people justify their or someone they support's actions by saying it was legal rather than it was right then you know it was wrong. @dbattistella So the utter destruction of Gaza and the eradication of the Hxmas-top were illegal ... Maybe should've heeded the effect 7 oktober had on Israelis and the ever ongoing abductions and rocket attacks. It's not about constructs, it's about BLOODY REVENGE. This is not a semantic battle, neither the Western pro-Palestinians nor the late Hxmas-top give a fck about Palestinians, just want to martyr them to serve their own religious hateful antisemitic agenda. It's a disgrace. @dbattistella It's important to remember these concepts are man-made, and as such, they can be man-unmade. @dbattistella Source and original image: βLegality is not a construct of justice.β by Hannah MΓΌller-Hillebrand; https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ3581PsJDg/ de toute faΓ§on mΓͺme quand c'est illΓ©gal, Γ§a continue quand mΓͺme. @dbattistella
Slavery was so legal that it is the foundation of US property law.
