@dansup @pixelfed I think it's a bad idea, you could implement the bridge negatively to make is easier for Pixelfed users to discover it and opt in but I am against native Bluesky support in general. Their protocol gives them full control rather than allowing for actually decentralization and we shouldn't embrace that! @dansup @pixelfed some things I would like to be addressed before this: @dansup I've seen conceptual talk of combined ActivityPub servers and AT PDSes. For decentralization, that certainly makes more sense than routing everything through a single bridge. The idea seems worth exploring. It does have lots of caveats though: posts published to Bluesky cannot be edited and are always fully public, the data model (e.g. 300 chars max) is strict, and there may still be restrictions on the number of accounts per PDS. So check your assumptions carefully. @dansup @pixelfed I saw so many digital artists in X have been migrating to Bluesky, so my answer is yes. For the sake of artwork exposure & promotion, I think Bluesky bridge is a good feature. Many people seems don't like Bluesky bridge (based this post reply), so I guess make this feature optional is a good decision. @dansup @pixelfed Overall it strikes me as a good thing that doesn’t particularly harm PixelFed users and could dramatically expand their community reach. Is Bluesky ripe with problematic potential? Sure! But people who go there might benefit from seeing a window into a larger federated Internet. 🤷♂️ @dansup Yes, this would significantly promote @pixelfed and open the door for mass adoption by “regular people” who left Twitter for Bluesky and who are open to an integrated Instagram-like photo-sharing platform. This would casually introduce those Bluesky-first users to the Fediverse too. Though, I'd advise not to assign the highest priority to this project, as I consider improving @loops more urgent. I read that implementing AtProto would be super expensive and currently Bluesky holds the monopoly on being an app on AtProto. In my opinion: No. Save your precious time for the essentials. Bluesky is maybe a hype but will disappear on the longterm. The Fediverse is here to stay. And it is much more important to get an Instagram/Tiktok alternative into broader usage. @dansup Would also suggest getting Pixelfed/Loops accounts on Bluesky/Threads. Bluesky seemed to get loads of signups by having an account on Threads showing people what's available on Bluesky. I mean it would be a great way to get more people on Pixelfed. I personally don't trust that platform. But my personal "feelings" don't align with what should be done to get more users. If you can find a way to show artists that the platform is great for sharing art and keeping them safe from people stealing their art for Ai projects but also making it easy for them to create content on the platform I think it will be a win in my mind. @dansup @pixelfed One vote for yes from me! Or if not, at least getting integration with @bsky.brid.gy to work in Pixelfed like it does with Mastodon. |
@dansup @pixelfed Is it where we are all going? If so, yes, or Federate with Open Vibe and take their lead?
