Gregory's ServerMy dream for Mastodon is for it to be a viable choice as a publishing platform for any creator. In other words, for people to not feel like they're locked in to Twitter or Instagram if they want to be professionally successful.

@Gargron This platform will crumble under the weight of the childish censorship promulgated by its administrators far before it outgrows twitter. @Gargron Mastodon's growth will be stunted if the moderation continues to be as strict as it currently is. @Gargron If mastodon.social doesnt serve ads, how does it mean pay the moderators and keep the servers running? Are patreon donations enough to keep an instance online?  @Gargron where do you see interop fit in this scenario? Federation is interop. @Gargron yes, of course you're right; I meant interop with networks not currently in the Fediverse; bridges across the ActivityPub/open protocol gap. We run moa.party because we believe interop with Twitter is important, even if occasionally problematic. @flancian More networks should implement ActivityPub, even if they are themselves not open-source/AGPLv3. I don't see any reason why any new social network (like that Glass one that recently popped up) shouldn't do that to instantly gain access to an established userbase. @Gargron totally, it doesn't make sense for up and comers in particular, so I agree that long term the future lies in the [[fediverse]]. But the same argument, I believe, applies to bridges: they increase the value of networks. Happy to be aboard, matey. This is my second TOOT! To get more user base there has to be content on mastodon. To have more content on mastodon, there has to be more users. Most platforms nowadays pay creators to post on their platforms, as mastodon is a non-profit work, its not a choice to make. To attract creators mastodon should have some sort of analytics features, verifying official accounts, creator tools. And constant buzz created by present users. |
