@tomscott hmm, Tom, you should choose a better Fedi instance than that I've been using your Mentour Pilot landing-a-737 video as a metaphor for my life lately... Also, it's not so much the next big thing (I kinda hope it never is) as it is the next small thing -- a thing that isn't, you know, completely controlled by a giant for-profit company. Regardless: welcome to the fediverse, for however long ye may stay ;-) @tomscott four years later, and this aged very well. no sarcasm this time. you're surprisingly good at predicting the future Never expect to see you here, welcome! Just a reminder Mastodon is just one software piece of software among many designed to interact with the fediverse using the Activitypub api. The fediverse is the federation of decentralized servers running software that utilizes this api. Popular fediverse platforms in Mastodon, Pleroma, Soapbox and Honk to name a few. Plus other picture hosting and blogging software too. @nerdtronics@mstdn.starnix.network @tomscott@mastodon.social This post was 6 years ago, lol. @tomscott Sometimes it is not about the number of users, but the freedom of use. I'd rather live in a place with very few free people than a huge city of slaves. IMHO @tomscott It will only be the next big thing if you use it. That is how these things work. @tomscott I think it would be the next big thing just like linux is the next big thing. They will have their own niche and not everyone will know about it. But it will be extremely important for those who uses it.
@tomscott@mastodon.social Love everyone who doesn't realize this was from six years ago, lol @dragfyre @tomscott Why does something need to be the "next big thing" to be the best thing? My experience in tech shows that once the masses latch on to something 10 years after it is created, it gets ruined. Look at the web now decades later, it is a shit pile. Send me back to 1993 please... @tomscott it turns out to be the next big thing now, so about time that you start using it ;) @tomscott With Twitter (oh sorry 𝕏) being pretty much dead - why don't come over again after 6 years and revive this account? @tomscott Welcome, Scot, to the second-biggest twitter-like social platform (other than Twitter)! @tomscott turns out, it is the next big thing. Can't wait to see you come back to this post. @tomscott it should be the next big thing. but attitudes like this kinda make sure it won’t be. Don’t just squat on your mastodon account! go use it and if you don’t love it help improve it! |
@tomscott welcome!
