When mapping in a park, having your recent journey visible might be helpful for tracing over. Today I went to investigate a forest path, and almost did not get my shoes wet.

Every Door does not record your track in the background and does not allow saving it though. Use @organicmaps or OSMTracker for that.

Satellite imagery in Every Door. Two buttons are visible ("burger" menu and a target). On top of the imagery, there is a blue trail with a large dot at the end.

Yup, Every Door uses raster tiles for both imagery (naturally) and the map. Which makes pre-downloading for offline surveying complicated.

One of the deliverables of the upcoming grant work is switching to vector tiles, so that map style is customizable, and working offline is more predictable.

Screenshot of the Every Door front panel, with the big red "No data" bar at the bottom. Visible is Brussels around "Muntpunt" library. Raster OSM tiles are not completely loaded, and different zooms are showing up.

@everydoor
Which vector tile scheme will you use?

@nakaner Absolutely no idea! I want something tiny, so that it could be downloaded in bulk in Africa with their modem speeds. But also versatile, e.g. with indoor navigation lines. So idk for now.

In some countries you can find a lot of vintage satellite imagery. The EOX one goes back to 2018! But those are not very useful in Every Door, since people should use imagery there only to orient themselves. The freshest one is largely enough for that.

Given HOT publishes OpenStreetMap layers and extracts to HDX, any OSM map is an HDX map.

Every Door is used in humanitarian contexts to map water sources, health facilities etc. There is no specific HDX tagging, and no other database. Although soon there could be, with custom presets and pre-upload hooks.

Another Every Door screenshot in micromapping mode. Pictured is a satellite view of some Tallinn yard, with visible dots for trees, benches, gates, trash cans, swings, and other things.
