BlueSky: Profit powered protocol
ActivityPub: People powered protocol

The choice is simple when you consider one is funded by a crypto VC firm, and the other is truly decentralized

@dansup yes and no... sounds easy when just seeing this. But content creators who do not participate into "opensource" or free content, will never switch to such a platform. You want to get money out of your content (paid by views, clicks, sponsoring, product placement, ...) - everything you don't have here. So, the mass for the mainstream content remains where the typical content creators are - and that's (luckily) not the Fediverse. It's that easy - it's just about $$$.

@dansup My prediction is that in the future there will be only two kinds of platforms: Commercial, LinkedIn-style places for self-promotion, and everything else will be ActivityPub.

@dansup well its not decentralized, rather federated

@dansup it shouldn't even be a discussion, TBH. Sadly, at the end of the day people will just follow big accounts wherever

@dansup I’m with you on that one. Sadly though, people seem to be flocking to Bluesky[1] faster and in higher numbers than they are to the Fediverse[2].
