I'm trying to make the @loops app simple and easy to use, and I've gotten mixed feedback about the UX regarding updating your bio fields.

Does this make sense to you? You tap your Avatar, Display Name or Bio and update accordingly?

I think it would be better to have an edit button on the top right that changes the fields to editable fields and a colored button to save

@dansup @loops That sounds good enough, but it would be even better with a pencil icon and a "press to edit" caption.

@dansup @loops first picture seems fine for me.
But the editing mode doesn't have a "save" button? I think that will lead to mild confusion.

@CaptainMalu @loops Oh that is because the save button only appears when you change the value, its not shown because that's the current value. If you delete or add a char, it would appear in the top right!

@dansup @CaptainMalu @loops This is nice. I like with the separate view you can make the UX as clear as possible without needing to worry about UI clutter.

@dansup @loops I think it might create some cognitive dissonance having the user see a placeholder in a text field, while having the text field contain a value. It also looks like a text field, so while I like "Tap to edit", I think the combination further muddies the water as to whether that's a text field or not.

imo, the UX could be refined at some point, but I wouldn't consider it unusable atm. It might simplify things to just have an "Edit" button and having a separate editing view.

Edit fields for multiline texts (like the bio) should always be large enough to show more than one line (at least 3+).
That's one of the gripes that I have with the pixelfed app as well.
