I've put together a survey about the Small Internet (#gopher, #gemini, individual webpages, small community sites) and I would love your input. If you are a small internet user, please spend a few minutes and fill in your thoughts. I'm especially interested in the open response questions. This will help inform an upcoming conference talk I'll be giving at mch2022.org

Also, please boost this on fedi as much as possible and feel free to re-share on other social networks and in other communities. The more responses the better.

@tomasino By self-hosted, do you mean in your own house or under hosting you have control over?

Tribbick

@tomasino Ok, good. stux hosts my site so I wasn't sure if I counted or not

@tomasino I ended up writing a lot more than I though I would. I'll make sure to spread this around

@tomasino Love the use of nextcloud for this survey. Respect.

@tomasino I'm a bit perplexed by the poll questions, to be honest, or maybe I'm just a dinosaur. I've been doing these "small" things since it was just the Internet, and simply haven't stopped. It's not nostalgia, but there's definitely an irritation with the bloat and centralisation that has appeared in the meantime. It's more a feeling that the Internet has gone in a direction that I don't like and have avoided and I am glad that there are other people who feel the same way.

tomasino

@ve0hak in it since before it was a thing that needed a special name. Same, same!

@tomasino I hit submit and there was no confirmation and my answers were still there so I hope it saved.

@tomasino Do things like small older webforums count in the "small communities" bucket? I'm not super familiar with the examples given.

@JubalBarca that's a part of what I'm looking to find out. Where are the lines people consider "small internet"? what makes it.a thing
