Upon powerup, the CPU begins to execute code.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

@foone@digipres.club concept: CPU incapable of running arbitrary code, with a fixed logic path for running Doom @janbeta @foone I thought it was a from The Restaurant at the End of the Universe? https://en.m.wikiquote.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy#Chapter_1_2 "In the beginning the Universe was created. @foone a better, but still not great approach is to reset the CPU before it starts executing code @foone That's not even the half of it, there are multiple CPUs involved in just powering and bootstrapping the main CPU before we even get into Intel ME etc. In a post-apocalyptic situation, the main reason we'll all be using 6502s/Z80s won't be radiation, it'll be because we physically can't bootstrap anything more recent. @foone @kianryan Or maybe better: There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the code is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. @semiprime @foone @kianryan On some of my computers, upon powerup the GPU begins to execute code, and is responsible for bringing the CPU online. This has made people not only angry, but very very confused. I'm quite convinced this is the thing that has already happened. |
