@thunderbird
It's been a while I've proudly moved to #FairEmail but I'm thinking to possibly give another chance to @k9mail or Thunderbird.
But I'll wait for it on @fdroidorg.
🤷🏻‍♂️

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@Nickname @AAMfP @k9mail K-9 Mail will be identical to Thunderbird for Android, though it will remain a separately branded app for a while. And we will announce when the Thunderbird for Android Beta is available for our F-Droid users as soon as its ready!

:digitalcourage: Damien

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@ljrk @d4m13n @kuketzblog Our very first blog post explains it pretty well. And since then, we've hired another K-9 Mail developer to the team! blog.thunderbird.net/2022/06/r

SomeAnoTooter

@thunderbird @ljrk @d4m13n @kuketzblog that's awesome and showing a good way in open source software, that things can also grow together and become one(, while at ever time it could branch out).
Open source is kind of a living thing that always move forward and where pay things hardly can vanish.

@thunderbird Looks great and seems to work great and fast, both for a gmail and a custom domain hosted with #purelymail . The setup of the custom domain seemed more confusing than with Thunderbird on desktop or apps like #fairemail .

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@twijg Thanks for trying us and for the feedback! Is there anything specific that made the custom domain setup frustrating, aka what you'd hope to see improved in a future release?

lj·rk

@thunderbird Switched from K9 Beta to Thunderbird Beta, looks pretty and worked without any trouble, thanks to everyone involved! :)

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@ljrk Oh fantastic! We want it to be a smooth transition for our K-9 users, and so thank you for testing it!

Linkinsoldier

@thunderbird @ljrk unfortunately the import of the k9 settings did not work via App for me (no specific error response).

Export and import via file did work.

Is this a known bug?

Pixel 8, latest Android software
K9 mail and Thunderbird are both beta!

@cyrus yeah i dunno about that, everybody seems to lose his mind with AI lately. Yup, looking right at you, firefox and mozilla.ai 😒

@thunderbird

A.B.

@thunderbird Got it and 2 major accounts are set up; secondaries will do later. One was not in the database but not difficult to config. Anxious for this and eager to see how it develops, but my heart is with K-9. Congrats!

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@andbenn This is great to hear! (And we know that lil robot dog knows how to pull at the heartstrings)

Softwarewolf

@thunderbird Awaiting F-Droid release. :blobfoxheart:

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@faoluin We'll have another post when F-Droid users get to join the party!

Ning

@thunderbird It would be great to have Sync built-in for the first release. This will make mobile onboading super smooth.

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@sunng Even if Sync isn't ready (and we're working very hard on getting it ready!) we'll still have a smooth mobile onboarding that will be ready for testing by the first release candidate in about three weeks' time. :)

@thunderbird Tried it, and sadly found my expectations confirmed: It's just K-9 Mail with some Thunderbird extras (mainly, a clumsier and less useful UI and general sluggishness).

Nick G

@thunderbird

Installed the beta from Google Play and migrated from K9. Longer report sent to mailing list.

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@ratcatcher Thank you so much! Testing the migration is so important for K-9 users, and we appreciate not only that you're doing this, but also providing detailed information.

Marcin Juszkiewicz

@thunderbird

Hm. That's kind of end of era for me.

K9-Mail was the app which shown me that 800x480px screen can be used better than Maemo does it. So after playing with NITDroid on Nokia N900 l went and bought Nexus S.

Over decade passed. K9-Mail was always on my phone. Still it.

Tb beta migrated settings fine. Folder names in side menu look worse. Probably something to get used to.

Anyway staying with K9-Mail 8beta for now.

qugalet
@thunderbird wow, material you, so cool! export from app didn't work, but it works fine when importing from file
Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@evan Thanks for testing it, and so glad the experience is going well!

Cats Who Draw

@thunderbird I love Thunderbird! I would like to help beta test

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@catswhocode Awesome! And it's seriously easy. If you're on F-Droid there's still a little wait, but otherwise follow the blog, come chat with us on Matrix or our mailing list, and let us know if you could get through the testing checklist! (Also, we might be birds who adopted a robot dog, but a lot of Team Thunderbird are cat people!)

Adam Lein

@thunderbird I only see a 15 minute poll frequency... does this not support IMAP IDLE yet for push delivery?

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@Adam Hey there - I (Monica) don't have an Android device to check this, but this recent post on the K-9 Mail forum might be helpful for troubleshooting this: forum.k9mail.app/t/cannot-get-

Also, we're using all the feedback to help us create FAQs and Getting Started guides on Mozilla Support, and I've added a note we should include Push and Poll settings in said guides.

Patrice-Guy Martin

@thunderbird Moved from K9. Imported settings from K9 export file for gmail and posteo accounts. Authenticated both accounts. Seems to be working fine.

third="Beedell", first="Roke"

@thunderbird, it's superb. If only Proton Mail supported unencrypted IMAP and SMTP, I'd use solely this client.

joeld

@thunderbird glorious default settings🎉 Now can we have a return to list after delete setting on regular Thunderbird?

Dan Keck

@thunderbird
Can't wait to use it! I tried importing my settings. K-9 Mail is an option, and I select it. But I get this error: "Failed to read settings file." Is there some way I can help troubleshoot this?

An Android screen titled "Import settings." Two buttons are featured in the middle: "Select file" and "Import from app." A message on the bottom reads "Failed to read settings file"
Dan Keck

@thunderbird
Also, I tried browsing the import screen with Android's screen reader, TalkBack. It mostly worked, except I did not hear a label for the back arrow button at the top. It was just announced as "button" so I didn't know its purpose. Is that something that could be fixed?

An Android screen titled "Import settings" To the left of the title, an arrow pointing left is highlighted.
Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@dankeck Thank you for alerting us to this! If you feel comfortable doing so, you can file this as a bug on our GitHub Issues page under 'type: accessibility' github.com/thunderbird/thunder

@thunderbird Installed and tested. Sent an email.

Tobias Schmidl

@thunderbird will the upgrade to from K-9 be made available via Play Store? play.google.com/store/apps/det still lists as 6.904, and I'm on the Beta Program.

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@schtobia Because of Play Store policy, we can't change K-9 Mail to Thunderbird in the App Store, which is why we've been asking people to test the K-9 Mail beta to Thunderbird Beta transfer, to help ensure the K-9 Mail to Thunderbird transfer is smooth when both have their regular release later this month.

el_haych2024

@thunderbird @alecaddd animations are a little slower than expected, but adding accounts was faster than it was for K9

melocipede :vulcan_hmn_g1:

@thunderbird testing it now and it seems to be working fine. import from k9 went smooth. I was wondering if we can expect some addons (i.e. quicktext) to be working on mobile too...

as a k9 user I did not notice major changes yet, but that's not a bad thing, on a beta.

looking forward for synching too.

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@durchdiewelt Apologies if this was your post on the Android Beta mailing list, but this is an issue with freenet.de, and we're reaching out to them: thunderbird.topicbox.com/group

DaAnda

@thunderbird just tried to migrate from k9, import from app did not work (file worked). There already is an older ticket on GitHub, but is it not assigned.
Next thing which is a huge show stopper for me is the missing support for nested and collapsible/expandable IMAP folders. The "folder.subfolder.subsubfolder.foo" workaround is a real deal-breaker, especially when you have 100 folders (incl subfolders). There also already is an existing unassigned ticket for this.

The rest seems fine so far 👍

@DaAnda Thanks for the feedback, and for making it both descriptive and honest. It's good to know what missing features potential users need most, and that can help us prioritize our roadmap.

Ronny Adsetts

@thunderbird will there be support for IMAP shared folders at any point? We use them quite a lot and it's a big limitation not having them visible on my phone.

Felix Urbasik

@thunderbird I tried it and it works. No issues. 👍

Stephen Greenham

@thunderbird
Import from K-9 not working with no real errors...

Carlos Francisco 🦣

@thunderbird I've just installed it. Looks great!

Will it support thunderbird labels?
