Currently adding these sections to about windows of some popular apps whose developers I know have multiple well-known projects. My hope is that these people get inspired to replicate the change to the listed apps as well 🙂

I haven't yet looked at how that works. Is it just a link to flathub or git page or something else? @gloopsies It uses AppStream URIs, so the buttons open the app pages in your software center directly! https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/sect-AppStream-Misc-URIHandler.html @bragefuglseth this is great! Maybe you could add an example to Workbench to give this idea to more dev! @bragefuglseth honestly, I'm not a fan of cluttering the about dialog with ads I didn't ask for. This should be a GNOME Software thing to do. Maybe a simple "More apps from … [^]" button can be enough? @mks_h @bragefuglseth I don't consider these as ads, it just shows other apps made by the same dev, which is a nice thing, you discover new apps by doing this. Then this thing has always existed but in other forms, both in open source and freeware software. @mks_h Oh come on, this can hardly be called "cluttering" 😄 For apps that implement it, it's mostly going to be 1-3 new rows located at the *bottom* of the about window. If people had to open Software just to see the available apps, I assume a lot less people would bother, even if one of the apps could be of great use to them. |
It's not the most straightforward thing to add, mostly because the app icons have to be bundled manually, but once you've done it once, it's pretty much possible to copy-paste everything across your apps given that they're written in the same language, as well as making sure every app except the one the about window belongs to is shown.
