@Doctor_J_ @EUCommission they regulated the connector and not the wire between the connector and the device so USB-C means at least 12 types of cable. This is a stupid mess created by bureaucrats with little knowledge

@Doctor_J_ @EUCommission from bitter experience whatever decree the EU makes will have an easily prevented opposite effect and it will wither on the vine because it is utterly unenforceable @humanhorseshoes @EUCommission I'm all for keeping batteries out of landfill and that kind of thing, but something like mandating USB-C use can't be future proofed. Anyways, the future of device charging is going to be wireless and all the paraphernalia connected to that. @humanhorseshoes @Doctor_J_ @EUCommission Every single one of those can deliver at least 5 volts at 500mA, so you have a baseline minimum. The speeds are completely irrelevant for charging. Different pins, different standards. edit: you won’t find a USB4 charger that requires a USB4 40Gbit/s cable to be used as a charger. You can find a USB-C PD2 charger or a PD3 and if you have a high power cable, they will deliver up to 100/140W. @humanhorseshoes @Doctor_J_ @EUCommission I live in the green area and my (2 pins) charger also works in blue, orange and brown, and many in red as well. So that’s the 2 pin euro plug for you. Works from Longyearbyen to Cape Verde and from the the Canary Islands to the Bering Strait. (Plus a whole bunch more, like South America and Asia..) |
@humanhorseshoes @EUCommission This is true, it would be more worth their time to make it easier for consumers to understand the differences between USB-C products (and also the many versions of HDMI).
