@Heliograph ICANN is nothing more than a greedy, international cartel, that makes $billions ripping off people for domain names they don’t own.

Imagine having to go through a cartel, just to register your business name. No, you go through your own country, not some secret, organization in Denmark.

Nobody “ownes” domain names. We rent them from an ICANN authorized registrar, like godaddy, who also makes $billions registering and “managing” domain names they don’t own. It’s just an endless churning of money for nothing. That doesn’t include website creation or hosting, which costs $hundreds more per year.

Tim Berners Lee gave us the www. navigation system, for free!

Yet the free internet has been stolen and claimed by bad actors like Google, who block our domain names from being searched, unless we pay to play.

The free web is flooded by endless “Sponsored Searches”, to the point where the Google searches have become an endless rabbit hole of misdirection.

@politicalfinger @Heliograph "Nobody “ownes” domain names." Correct, same as for phone numbers. "We rent them from an ICANN authorized registrar", yes and no. ICANN regulates gTLD space, not ccTLD space. There are over 1500 TLDs nowadays, including one per country in the world. If you want to be free of ICANN, then choose a ccTLD.
