@Natanox I agree, I think its a good thing for users to be able to support their admins financially, and I am looking into that for Pixelfed.

It may require some paperwork, and stuff, but if I could make it easy for admins to get a portion of in-app purchases and facilitate direct donations to admins, I think that would help with the burden of costs associated with running an instance!

@dansup I recently read about the idea of "patron posts", i.e. giving people the option to set their profile up so people with invested interest in your work/art can subscribe to individual accounts.
This would both attract artists and entertainers (won't use "content creator", imho it's a derogative term), but could also finance the very instance they use if there's f.e. a 1% cut on every transaction.

Would be hell of an implementation nightmare to properly work with the "change instance"

@dansup feature and there'd be a lot of questions to answer (3rd party client / instance compatibility, patron post feature set etc). It'd be one hell of an argument for many, MANY people to join the fedi though, including those we only see on platforms like Youtube).

@dansup Given you develop both Pixelfed and Loops this might be an interesting direction. :) Definitely keep an eye and ear open in the #Owncast and #Peertube community whatever you do though regarding the topic, there's vested interest by many to enable indies living off of their work there too! And perhaps the fine people at @librecast can help with content delivery in terms of network design in the near future too!

( tl;dr please kickstart a movement lol :thisisfine: )
