A note to Reeder Classic users:
For this release, I’ve tried to cover any questions you might have about the new Reeder and Reeder Classic in the FAQ:
reeder.app/help#faq

There's no pressure to upgrade. As mentioned before, both apps will coexist. The new Reeder is free to download, so feel free to give it a try.

Frederic Jacobs

@rizzi Congrats on shipping! Will there be an option to use Feedbin with the new one?

Pelle Wessman

@fj @rizzi +1 on this, I will not be adding all my feeds to a new app

(Though I may opt to subscribe to some OPML files if that was possible: github.com/voxpelli/webring-op)

Colin Pekruhn

@fj No - @rizzi specifically told beta testers that this app has a different vision than Classic and won’t integrate with services like Feedbin.

Stelian Iancu

@cpekruhn @fj @rizzi this makes it then a no-go for me unfortunately. I will keep using Reeder Classic and when that won’t work anymore I will switch to another RSS app that supports Feedbin.

Colin Pekruhn

@panzerboy @fj @rizzi I was initially skeptical, as a Feedbin user myself, but I've come to really like the new app's approach. I actually feel less stress checking my feeds and have come to enjoy the timeline approach. But definitely not for everyone, and its not meant to be.

Frederic Jacobs

@cpekruhn I also catchup on my RSS feeds from Linux machines so will stick to Feedbin and Reeder classic for now

pikuboy

@rizzi I love the new app but I also like the Reeder Classic. I have one question, will Reeder Classic become subscription based too?

Pelle Wessman

@pikuboy @rizzi It’s answered in the FAQ: No, it will stay a one time purchase

pikuboy

@voxpelli oh I feel stupid, thank you, i didn’t read the first answer completely

Sebastian :coffefied:

@rizzi Subscribed to support, but I don’t think that’s gonna be RSS Reeder replacement for me for now.

Are there any plans to bring some Reeder Classic features for Feeds in the new app? Like up/down navigation read/unread, etc?

Bernd Folberth

@rizzi Congrats. What's the best way to report bugs?

David Friedman

@rizzi Congratulations! Years ago, I had to reluctantly stop using Reeder because it had a weird issue when scrolling with my touch Wacom that made it unusable — scrolling would stop, jump, stutter, etc. I'm glad to say that the new Reeder scrolls just fine with my Wacom. But I still miss the old one, which continues to have the strange scrolling problem. Any chance that's something repairable?

Daniel Sokolovskiy

@rizzi Congrats on the launch from a long-time Reeder user!

Here are a couple of things that would make me instantly switch and subscribe:

1. Add a 'Read' tab in Home for articles only (similarly to 'Video' and 'Audio' tabs)
2. Exclude Shorts from the YouTube feeds (I only watch long-form videos);
3. Add playback speed control for YouTube videos
4. Add Instagram and Facebook Page feeds (though completely understand if it's not possible)

Any chance to see some of that in the near future?

Jacob Asker

@dsokolovskiy @rizzi +1 would love to see youtube shorts being excluded from the timeline. The main reason for why I use Feedbin with Reeder classic to take advantage of its filters feature.

Eric Lindvall

@rizzi is the scroll position inside a post saved any synced? That’s been my biggest pain with trying to read long form content.

Oriol

@rizzi exciting and happy to subscribe! Two questions based on comparing my first experience to the previous one:
* Will there be a way to swipe left within an article to open the in-app browser, as in Reeder classic?
* What about swiping up and down to jump across content?
* Are there any plans for a fully black background?
I’ve supported Reeder for years and it’s fun to try new ways to consume content!

Daron Brewood 🇬🇧

@rizzi ref the lack of Feedly support I guess importing feeds from Feedly or from Reeder Classic would work.

Sascha

@tekguru @rizzi You can export an OPML file from Reeder classic and import it in the new Reeder.

Daron Brewood 🇬🇧

@multiuser @rizzi it did indeed work. All my feeds are great and seem quite workable.
The issue for me I guess is if I look to bring in my Mastodon account as in the new Reeder I don’t have any access to notifications etc.

Christian del Valle

@rizzi Congrats! Please add the “unread” bubble to the app and to each source, otherwise I need to review each one manually. Thanks!

espiox

@rizzi Congrats on the launch! The new app is just missing too much for me to switch (like organisation and layout options, or Feedbin’s muted phrases and email newsletter feeds). I look forward to future Reeder Classic features, and I’d definitely be willing to pay a subscription to help fund more frequent updates.

Oscar Bazaldua

@rizzi one slight suggestion for migrating users: It would be great to have an easier path to move RSS subscriptions to the new app (aside from OPML that is)

Mel Tajon

@rizzi Thank you for Reeder Classic over all these years and for committing to maintain it! I can actually see myself using both Classic and the new Reeder for different reasons (once you add Folders support).

Ondřej Kozák

@rizzi sorry but I can’t use it without the OPML subscription. That’s kinda neglecting free aspect.

ekiledjian

@rizzi I subscribed to support but I don’t see any reason why I would go from classic to this version. I don’t see any benefits to switching. What am I missing?

Jeff Clatworthy

@rizzi As an avid user of your software, I’m MORE than happy to support your work by buying the new version too (with yearly subscription), even if I keep using the the older version 🙂👍🏼
I adore Mela too.

Dan

@rizzi Congrats on the launch. Two questions, any plans for a lifetime IAP? Also, do you support family sharing?

Jens Reinhardt

@rizzi Why is there no Lifetime avalable? I hate subscriptions. Everyone is doing this terrible subscription stuff.

Rivers

@jensreinhardt @rizzi yeah please include lifetime purchase please

Jesse Youngblood

@rizzi Love what I see so far! How can I import my feeds from Reeder Classic? Do I have to subscribe first then use the OPML import feature?

Ross Wintle

@jessety @rizzi Yeah. Looks amazing. But would be great if it could do a one-off OPML import to get classic users up and running.

Ross Wintle

@jessety @rizzi Ah. Free plan is limited to 10 feeds.

Still feels like this needs more ability to try it out.

Simon Harper

@rizzi awesome. Can I import my Reeder Classic feeds or so I have to add them all manually again?

Isaac

@simonharper feeds can be exported in Reeder Classic as OPML and then imported into the new Reeder

Simon Harper

@dantemh only if you subscribe. Seems a shame. Surely the import process could give the user a pic list of just 10 (the free limit) feeds to import.

mrjosh

@rizzi pricing seems to be off in Canada for the new Reeder. Cheaper to subscribe monthly?

Martin

@mrjosh @rizzi Same in Sweden, 9kr per month (109kr for 12 minuts) and 129kr per year.

shinratdr

@mrjosh @rizzi Yep, subscribed at $1/month. Would have happily done $10/year which I assume was the intent (-$2 not +$2). Also would love a lifetime option, but understand that isn’t possible for all apps nowadays.

mogita

@mrjosh @rizzi weird pricing also in Singapore, like we have 15 months a year (i wish to have)

Phil Nelson

@rizzi Best of luck on the launch. Will try it out today. Reeder user of many years.

Stan

@rizzi Huge virtual high five for shipping, and kudos for building the new Reeder that you want to use! Really looking forward to where you're headed from here.

Normal :jo_2: :v_enby:

@rizzi unsure if i like the changes to the read status: it was basically my one sure-fire way to say "yeah, i have acknowledged this item in the feed"

scroll position doesnt seem to work on Mac, which already makes me feel this feature is unreliable

its also way too easy to "mess it up", and paralyses glancing, since you cannot "forget the scroll position" if you were at some point in the list

even a "read cursor", a line between the (past) read and (future) unread posts, would be very helpful for this, since then i could catch up to the feed and throw stuff into Later when i want to look at it later, but then i'll have read it "already"

plus, this'll only scale with N per feed, and make it easily syncable, instead of scaling per amount of posts that the app has accumulated

please reconsider adding this, since else i don't think i could switch over. i like the app a lot, the vibes and the feeling, but this is a core missing feature for an RSS reader for me

CodingPanic

@rizzi Congrats on the launch! A lifetime IAP would be an insta-buy for me, regardless of price. Not interested in subscriptions and renting software.

Brandon Kelly

@rizzi Congrats!! Love the improved image view with inline alt text.

Ayreonaut

@rizzi Great! How to import feeds from Reeder Classic?

Ayreonaut

@rizzi I was asking too fast… found it myself. Found the „Export as OPML…“ in the Feed account settings of Reeder Classic and the „Import from OPML…“ when adding a new feed in the new Reeder. Imported my 60+ feeds like a charm.

Ivan Tomica

@rizzi looks very nice! Congrats on the release! Will definitely try it out. Though, due to my dependance on Miniflux for syncing accross platforms, I can't promise I'll stick to it. Happy Reeder Classic user though... 😂🤷‍♂️

Corentin Cras-Méneur

@rizzi the new version looks great! I would have upgraded in a flash, but I am not taking YA subscription… I hope you’ll consider a lifetime upgrade option (or an Agenda-like option of “get the new features as long as you subscribe and keep the app as-is once you stop" in the future.

Jay

@rizzi It’s me or the Bionic reader not working on saved links?

ꜰᴀʙɪᴏ :xcode:

@rizzi a lot of congrats !! 😊 and you’re animations are still gorgeous!

Johan Skeppe

@rizzi congratulations on shipping 🎉 it’s beautiful 🤩

Rick Williams

@rizzi seems great so far. I see myself getting great usage.
One request that jumped out to me right away. Would it be possible to get a toggle for counts by the Saved categories. I have a bad habit of dumping stuff into Read Later and forgetting to revisit.

Dennis 🆙

@rizzi congrats on the release. Due to missing FreshRSS support i probably won‘t move my main RSS feed collection over. As that is my main news source on all my different devices I can‘t drop it. But I have a secondary feed which currently sits at Feedly with 1000s of Game feeds from Steam. I‘ll probably move this over to test the new App.

Sam A. Horvath-Hunt

@rizzi Some initial feedback:

1) Entering an incorrect feed URL requires you to go back to correct it, which was unintuitive.
2) To compete with Play for YouTube it’d be great if this could filter out shorts.

Rhys Jones

@rizzi Looks great so far, the only issue I’m having is subscribing to feeds that are subscriber only - meaning the special link I’m provided fails 😞

Daron Brewood 🇬🇧

@rizzi I guess there is not likely be support for Feedly at all?

Tek say vote

@rizzi It’s beautiful, and I like the direction you're exploring here that's different from a traditional RSS reader. It reminds me of @Iconfactory Tapestry in concept.

One request, though: can you make the colors configurable, or at least provide more schemes? The default is very low contrast and hard for my old eyes to read.

AJ Thomas

@rizzi
Thanks for the new app, I’ve subscribed.

I’ve been looking at apps that integrate my Mastodon and Bluesky timelines, and keeps my place, and this does that well.

Are there any plans to have in app access to standard interactions like boosts, reposts, follow etc?

Kurt

@rizzi I have been using and bought new versions of Reeder sight-unseen without question since 2010. Lack of 3rd party sync support is unfortunately a deal-breaker with the new Reeder. I hope Reeder Classic continues to be maintained in the future. I'd even pay a yearly sub for that to continue to be developed and supported.

Marco Rodrigues

@rizzi I’m a Canadian user in the subscription model says one dollar per month or $14 per year. Which doesn’t seem correct. I think the monthly subscription should be showing as more?

Chris Wood

@rizzi this is gorgeous! I love that I can follow people and channels without needing an account on the platform they’re using. Really nice, and I love how you’ve separated the feeds by content type for when I’m in the mood to watch / listen to something. Thank you!

RistrettoMike

@rizzi Congrats! Already loving having my feeds, YouTube subs, and important subreddits all in one place. :)

Ian

@rizzi

Feedback: Scroll in the other direction please.
I read down the page not up. It just feels unnatural seeing the tail end of each post first.

👍

Matteo DallOmbra

@rizzi loving the new app so far! Just one piece of feedback: could we have an option to have the item title at the top and the source below? I find it a bit distracting seeing the source first all the time!

Poilus

Merci 🙏 monsieur Rizzi

Francesco Maida

@rizzi This is what I feared the most:

Subscription based.

The beauty of Reeder lay precisely in the fact that you could purchase a license for the version and use it indefinitely.

fengypants

@rizzi Woah. A lot to wrap my brain around here. But I do for sure miss using J/K keys for next/previous in combo with the spacebar. Even more, I miss being able to use the spacebar to both page down through an individual post and also jump to the next post when I reach the bottom of one. Anyway, this is a trip, so different. Congrats on the release.

Tim Triemstra

@rizzi Congratulations. Love so many of the ideas here.

Saw your list of future todo items, please add a vote for display customization. Reeder Classic became my go-to app initially due to the ability to use giant fonts across all the UI. Need this to be able to move to the new app, exclusively. Also don't need the article text or thumbnail images in the list view, but that's a lower priority.

Again, great work, and looking forward to using the app even more!

Michael Suchecki

@rizzi congratulations on the launch!

The one big thing I’d love is a swipe gesture to enter the share sheet (or ideally to automatically add it to an external read later app configurable in settings).

Being able to add items quickly to Readwise Reader is the one thing keeping me on Classic right now!

Chris Sansbury

@rizzi Its beautiful but how do you move from on story to the next?

A random selection

@rizzi Congrats!!

Should one keep the beta or install the App Store version?

Edwin G. :mapleleafroundel:

@rizzi Congrats on shipping.

I will mention that the subscription pricing doesn’t make sense. It costs more for a yearly subscription than paying monthly

$1 for a month
$14 for a year

Sergio

@rizzi congratulations on the launch, I love it! Takes the pressure out of feed subscriptions.

Johann

@rizzi Can you please improve the VoiceOver support?

Carlos

@rizzi Can we have the hability to remove shorts from youtube feeds?

Dmitri | 🇺🇦

@rizzi Wait wait wait.. is this a combined RSS + ActivityPub reader app?? :pikasurprise:

Greg Woods

@rizzi congrats on the launch! Very cool that you are continuing to support the classic version. I’m a long time user so I’m not yet sure which version I’ll like more, but will certainly give the new one a try.

Wade McGillis

@rizzi can you do this for the other pokemon energy types?

äymm :damnified:

@rizzi Looks great, however no integration with Inoreader is an absolute dealbreaker: I need access on the web to my feeds as well as in the app

Brandon Schoech

@rizzi The new Reeder is great and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes. Congrats!
