I'm thinking of temporarily removing threads.net accounts from the popular accounts list on #FediDB because their follower counts include non-federating accounts.
What do you think?

@dansup Basically, I think interoperability between the Fediverse and Threads is important. But as long as Meta doesn't take care of the EU rules, we in Europe won't benefit. So please remove it temporarily. @Goldmaster It's impossible to get that count, because threads doesn't differentiate between accounts with federation enabled and without @dansup ah that's the issue. It's funny how people jump from twitter to Facebook threads when everyone knows that Facebook is just as bad. It's very similar to a 2 party problem. When the very reason for a Elon musk takeover was due to how twitter was set up. The biggest challenge Mastodon has is the networking effect. Social media managers only look at engagement not which is the best platform option. One could give "the keys" to the enterprise and they could still turn down the system. @dansup @dansup yeah Iโd prefer default-hidden but still available with a toggle. Is there any hope of ever having data on how many *fediverse* follows a Threads account has? @dansup Well, today the first account is barackobama but I cannot reach it from my account. And so I think you can remove thread. @dansup Yeah, I just posted about this on @darnell@darnell.day! You can โroughlyโ estimate how many Fediverse followers a Threads account has (outside of Threads itself), but they need to provide more transparent stats, similar to what Flipboard does. I will submit a request to them to offer this stat on peopleโs profiles. @dansup I've supported a "wait and see" approach to Facebook (by whatever name) on the Fedi: Wait and see if they ever decide to start acting decent, and *then* think about whether or not to federate with them. Don't hold your breath waiting. They're proven hostile. If you could tease apart how many of the followers are non-federating and exclude them from the count, then go for it, but IMHO that's far more effort than Facebook deserves. |
@dansup It's called "federation" for a reason, we should be open and welcoming to *anyone* who behaves.
