@yueplushart #Welcome! You seem off to a good start. Some things:

* Add alt text to images. It doesn't have to be long, but it should describe the image and point out any highlights. Fediverse is much about accessibility; adding a descriptive alt text greatly helps image accessibility. Many won't boost or interact with posts that have images lacking alt text.

* Post an introduction, tag it introduction, and pin it to your profile. Look through that tag for some inspiration on what to include.

* Including appropriate hashtags in your posts increases discoverability.

* Follow! If you see someone posting something you like, look at their profile and consider whether you want to follow. Also look at and follow hashtags. Use filters/mute/block/unfollow as necessary to curate your feed. Mastodon doesn't push content to you, so you need to seek out that which matches your interests.

@mkj Thank you so much! mkj-san! I learned a lot...Alt text on images. I used to upload them almost like I was just throwing them out on Twitter, so I'm going to try to fix that habit!
And thank you!

@yueplushart One more thing that I didn't think of previously.

Just like there's no algorithm selecting posts to show you, you also don't need to fight any censorship algorithm.

In fact, trying to obscure words is more likely to annoy people because a lot of people set up filters to hide things they don't want to see; which won't hit if you replace letters with symbols or digits or the whole word with an unusual synonym. Best is to just use the commonly accepted word for a thing when you post.

@mkj got it!
I definitely needed that explanation...thanks!
(I had a terrible experience with algorithms and shadow bans on Twitter/x...)
I'll try to learn how to use CW slowly by watching other people
At least thanks to your explanation, I think I'm much better at use this site...
