For the Handmade talk, I'm trying to compile a list of programming languages(or, just general creative computation explorations) that use conworld, conlang or various other narrative tools like music and pictures, to build a kind of universe around itself, similar to Pinnochioverse, Land Of Lisp, the Fortran Coloring book, etc.. If you know of project like this, please send it over!

@neauoire have you read the little lisper/little schemer series? i think that probably qualifies too

Devine Lu Linvega

@d6 I have yeah, it's a good example. I already have that one on the list : )

@neauoire I collect quirky computing books. These seem more or less like what you're going for:
From Baker Street to Binary
Elementary Basic/Elementary Pascal
Why's poignant guide to Ruby
If Hemingway wrote JavaScript
Day of Code
Karel the robot
Secret Coders

nuxi

@neauoire depending on how much you want to stretch the concept, I might add:
Hitchhikers guide to VMS
To mock a mockingbird
Gödel Escher Bach

Devine Lu Linvega

@nuxi yes, those are definitely in line, I had Smullyan's on my list already :)

@neauoire of course there's any number of programming games. Stuff like tis-100 or bitburner are by nature immersive.

Devine Lu Linvega

@nuxi which are some of your highlights that might qualify as general purpose computing?

nuxi

@neauoire probably:
TIS-100
Bitburner
Human resource machine
Else heart.break()

@neauoire I totally forgot I bought a copy of The Fortran Coloring Book and haven't read it yet. Thanks for the reminder!

Devine Lu Linvega

@tbsp it contains the absolute most horrifying drawing of a seal balancing stuff on its nose you'll ever come across.

@neauoire I think APL with its glyphs is a conlang by itself? 😎
