@GIMP Will „heal selection“ again be a part of it? Please, please, please?

GIMP

@atarifrosch You mean from the Resynthesizer plug-in? It has never been a part of core GIMP. Though we have always recommended it to people. It's a great plug-in!

I'm pretty sure it will soon be ported to GIMP 3.0 (in fact, I know there is already a branch on their repo for GIMP 3 API), especially as it is maintained by one of our core developers these days.

@tallshmo
I suggest Libre Image Graphics Manipulation Application

@GIMP

Drew Naylor

@runarcn As a non-joke answer, I think LIMA, Libre Image Manipulation Application would be good.

@tallshmo @GIMP GIMP já é muitíssimo maior que aquela prática de sadomasoquismo. Nem se vê mais nada na mídia sobre isso na internet, e em pleno 2024 ainda insistem nessa história.

@GIMP Great news!!!!! Congratulations for the peoplewho make this step possible!!!

Phenry Pereira

@d4v @GIMP Há muito o que ser feito antes disso. Mas por sorte a comunidade pode participar da construção do GIMP e existem projetos ótimos publicados no Github sobre isso, como GIMP-ML.

D4v

@phenrypereira @GIMP thanks will have to check it out! ☺️

Dave 🚀

@GIMP … can we get that name changed by 4.0.0 ? 😀

Phenry Pereira

Dave 🚀

@GIMP @phenrypereira

Thanks for this view. It’s pretty rude to reply in a different language, but hey that’s what Google Translate is for.

In the wider world beyond the Linux and tech sphere, few people know the software name and *do* wonder what the heck?! when they encounter it. I’ve seen this happen with family members and friends.

It’s not a bad thing to change things like this, but I’m sure the project has heard it all before

Dave 🚀

@phenrypereira @GIMP also I think you be missing some context of the use of the word in different English speaking localities:

dictionary.cambridge.org/dicti

It’s the use as a slur on disabled people, that makes it an odd name to explain to folks new to Linux and open source software.

@dave GTK 2 → GIMP 2, GTK 3 → GIMP 3 (, GTK 4 → GIMP 4).

mausmalone

@GIMP Great to hear! So, what, only 2 more years until release?

Flo Ti

@mausmalone Putting a downer on good work done by volunteers isn't in the spirit of this platform and is not welcome.

Flo Ti

@GIMP I'm so excited about 3.0 being around the corner! Thanks to everyone who has contributed - I'm sure I'm not the only one who is super grateful to you all :blob_thanks: :partyblobcat: 🫶

Nigel

@flowti @GIMP and me! The CMYK functionality alone is going to make my work on printed book covers so much better/easier, and there's a ton more stuff than just that.

Flo Ti

@nigelharpur @GIMP That's great! What has your printing workflow been until now? I've been working on transitioning to FOSS software at one of my jobs and the fine art printing aspect has been the most challenging so far...

Nigel

@flowti @GIMP the cover artwork is provided as either as hand drawn/painted or as photo files so sometimes scanned into gimp directly. I use the text tool/layers in gimp for the titles, blurb etc so usually can do everything just with gimp. One CD cover needed a lot of ongoing (frequently edited) vector work so inkscape was involved. I end up with a multi layer master as per the printer's template and then the 'fun with colour spaces' begins 🤔😳. The FOSS solution has been Krita to date but... 🤞🤞

Nigel

@flowti @GIMP Krita is, on my machine at least, rather sluggish and tbh I know gimp so well now I am not keen on another learning curve.
The CMYK issue will mean a lot as indeed with getting art printed in colour it's a real challenge to meet the artists' expectations, especially with vibrant blue tones. The CMYK gamut is an issue in itself there of course!

@GIMP can y'all unfreeze it and change your name first

sincerely, a user who really would appreciate if y'all had a less offensive name

Ray Of Sunlight

@GIMP This is the oldest FOSS i know, and i didn't knew it was back when i first started using it, now i am more than happy and excited foe the 3.0
