Glad you are here. I’ve worked with all sorts of sensors over the years. Here’s an article I wrote you might enjoy about workshops I did in 1982 where teachers built thermistor temperature probes they plugged into Apple 2 computers and wrote a 10-line BASIC program to graph the real time data. Turns out many years later I found out they learned so much more! http://learnmaketeachshare.org/education/2018/11/09/learning-something-new.html For now just one more super cool sensor — did you know you can use simple monochromatic LEDs as narrow-band light sensors! @juliagersey Hello and welcome! 🙂 Looking forward to reading your posts on your research. I used to work on a smart city adjacent project where we designed interactive public objects for everyday purposes in urban environments: https://fietkau.science/designing_smart_urban_objects Not much sensor use except to facilitate interactivity. Maybe there'll be some overlap anyway and I'll be able to chime in with our experiences. @juliagersey Welcome! I am UM grad too! 1990 College of Pharmacy @juliagersey Welcome! That sounds like cool research. What's the field/dept? Electrical engineering? @juliagersey Welcome! #Mastodon is good. A key activity is following heaps of people. It’ll fill your feed in no time. @juliagersey@hci.social Hi July , welcome! 👋 I hope you get to enjoy the last weeks of holiday until your classes start. 😄 @juliagersey Welcome aboard, It looks like you may have some common interests with https://floss.social/@SeaFury@aus.social in environment/buildings. If not she's still worth a follow. @BlippyTheWonderSlug @juliagersey yeah. Lots of #cats on Mastadon. And nice pictures. Welcome! @juliagersey @juliagersey #Welcome! I'll add that you should also use filters. (You'll find the settings in your profile.) Basically, for better and worse here it's on you to curate your own timeline. You can also check out your server's local and federated timelines; that'll give you ideas for what to follow, both people and hashtags. @juliagersey I jumped here from Twitter a few years ago. Never regretted it once. Another friendly tip is that we try to encourage people to add alt text to images to help everyone have equal access to content. Even a quick label is helpful. Very excited to hear more about your research! @juliagersey @StillIRise1963 Welcome to Mastodon from a U of M alumnus. I’m so old that I had to look up what the C stands for in ECE (I figured from your intro that it wasn't Early Childhood Education). What's good, Julia. I'm another environmental studies scholar (from political science). On the one hand, good On the other hand, the slow movement of good people from twitter is a real lesson in how hard it is to change behaviour sometimes anyone advocating for change by , say, calling Trump a christofascist, should remember that |
@juliagersey welcome to hcisocial!
