My kingdom for a multi-page app version of Jira. Like... the main use case I have for it is having a tab open for every open ticket I'm working on. It's like the opposite of the use case for a single-page app.

@darius there's a CLI thingy for Jira that I use sometimes. it's a lot better than using the web interface, if you're doing stuff it supports. but sadly it kinda sucks at custom fields, which we use a lot at my dayjob. =\ @darius sure sure, but don't you understand how beautiful this JavaScript looks on my developer machine? So much cleaner than the old world of HTML and CSS (shudder). And if people want multiple tabs, IDK, maybe they should get an M1 Ultra like I have? @darius Is it not easy to do that with Jira? (I'm asking because I've started evaluating Jira at $DAYJOB.) @cstanhope it's easy to do that but it means that you are running a full SPA with router on every single tab -- basically eats up resources like crazy, also opening issues in new tabs *by design* takes like 15 seconds because they front load a bunch of stuff and assume you'll never open a new tab. in short: yes you can do it, very easily. it is just slow as hell @darius Ah, got it. Thanks for the insight. It's not even something I would've thought to evaluate. I commonly have multiple tickets open with our current solution (Trac). *sigh* @darius @cstanhope I was noticing this the other day, too. Click link, page seems to load, then sits there wheezing and spasming for 20 seconds as new things keep loading in and reflowing the layout. @darius @cstanhope I’ve had difficulty opening tabs in Jira. At this point it feels like issues don’t have reliable URLs. So sometimes tabs just boot up to other random parts of the SPA. Some of that is on my groups for constantly rearranging boards/cheese. Some I that is definitely Jira just being terrible. How much in each column I don’t know. I rather dislike Jira personally and would use just about anything else given the choice. |
I just imagined a https://pinafore.social/ for Jira and, god, I would pay extremely good money for this. (The major problem here is I imagine Atlassian's API and long-term support for 3rd party clients is way, way poorer than Mastodon's.)
