@MeanwhileinCanada Just another reason I feel like begging your fine country to please take me. I speak French too! @MeanwhileinCanada@ohai.social that first one is clearly mirror universe spock. 🖖 the paper bills have been out of circulation for quite a while. your chances of finding one now are very slim. @MeanwhileinCanada In the US they also have plenty of those.. @MartinBe @MeanwhileinCanada years ago there was an artist who was accused of counterfeiting for offering his artistic renditions of american currency in trade to buy things. he never called his art "money". after the feds dropped their case i never heard anything more from the newsmedia about him. @homelessjun @MeanwhileinCanada It is possible that this is the one you have mentioned. But I am not 100% sure. @MartinBe @MeanwhileinCanada no, his was 100% his own creation, pencil and ink, sometimes watercolor, not on banknote paper. @homelessjun @MartinBe @MeanwhileinCanada I vaguely remember something about a Canadian artist who did that with postage stamps -- would draw the stamps on the envelope. @MartinBe @MeanwhileinCanada okay, a $20 "#rambofied" is also cool... @MeanwhileinCanada @kranzkrone @MeanwhileinCanada @Xiong_Shui I don't remember the guys name but he was in New York. He would draw a perfect bill from scratch with a few changes and then haggle with the shop keeper. He kept the change and the receipt which he gave to his gallery and they would go purchase the drawing from the business. @MeanwhileinCanada Also, they would fine you for this. I miss my old Saint-Ex and Curie bills ☹️ @Nanard_Groubiche @MeanwhileinCanada Well, the 50€ obviously has a Tardis-to-be (which would be somewhat sad), but other than that... Yeah, I think the best you could do is add some recognizable silhouette standing in an archway. @MeanwhileinCanada This was a brilliant time in the history of Canadian currency. In true nerd fashion, I must note that the goateed Spock at the top is in fact the "evil" Spock of the ISS Enterprise from TOS episode "Mirror, Mirror"...though he appears to be wearing the red "turtleneck" Starfleet tunic from the "Wrath of Khan" era. @MeanwhileinCanada While on the subject of numismatic vandalism does anybody remember pulling the silver thread out of paper money? There was a technique using your canine tooth to grab it 😬 @MeanwhileinCanada Thanks for sharing this little tidbit! I am actually laughing out loud! @chicating @MeanwhileinCanada No, he was born in Boston, Massachusetts. So he was a US citizen. @MeanwhileinCanada “The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.” @MeanwhileinCanada @MeanwhileinCanada Spock dollars, house hippos, proof Canadians have a subtle sense of humor. In case anyone does not know what a house hippo is. Whynhell didn't they take a page from the US Mint & just issue those officially & charge extra for them? Serious lack of planning on their part.... @MeanwhileinCanada Five or six years ago, there was a cover band called "Spockin' the Fiver". 😄 @MeanwhileinCanada Then just print the bills with Spock on them. Problem solved. 🖖🏻😁 @MeanwhileinCanada @MeanwhileinCanada To quote Spock "fascinating" :-) Never knew this but it is/was brilliantly creative :-) @MeanwhileinCanada |
@MeanwhileinCanada LOL.
