my answer was that "everything is political" and "not everything is political" have both valid arguments and that the discussion is as old as human history. So who am I to decide who is correct if the most brilliant minds were not able to come to a conclusion yet?
So I wanted to emphasise that you should all try to understand the arguments of the other side instead of convincing each other. I am sure all of you have more that unites you than sets you apart.

 @buddhaha @m3tti @morganmay @mcc It is easy to say that you're "apolitical" when you lie at the intersection of socially dominant groups (so in the US, that might be something like a white, straight, cis, able-bodied man). If you are non-white in the US, *your existence is political* whether you like it or not. If you are a woman in this country, your existence and your needs are political. If you are LGBTQ+, your existence is political. 2/? @buddhaha @m3tti @morganmay @mcc I have the luxury of not thinking about my gender if I don't want to (as a man), but my wife really can't. I know nonbinary people who haven't come out fully b/c declaring their very existence is seen as a radical political act in much of the world. Every single choice we make has *some* kind of effect (political, social, environmental, etc). Recognizing that just enables us to act to create a better world. 3/3 @chiraag @m3tti @morganmay @mcc As I said you have valid arguments and I agree. I agree with arguments for the contrary side too. This is not a binary topic and has multiple valid conclusions. Your statements are based on your perspective that assumes the existence of free will and some causal determinism. That is not wrong but it is just one of many valid perspectives and without prior agreement on such foundations it is not possible to find a common ground. So why fight? Just to be right? @chiraag @m3tti @morganmay @mcc Just want to add thank you! Last time I was actually intellectually challenged by another human was approx. waytoomany years ago. I did not think I'll mention causal determinism or moral cognitivism when signing up to mastodon. @buddhaha @m3tti @morganmay @mcc "Not everything is political" only works if you agree with the status quo, though. Because that's what "apolitical" is - the "default" (status quo) is good, so I don't need to think about politics. This only works, though, if you are part of the dominant group(s) in your society. If you are straight, "gay" is political while "straight" is apolitical. If you are a woman, gender becomes political.
