Something I love about using my iPod regularly again is I’ve got a little island of OS X Tiger with me. No matter what my computer OS looks like, I’ve got a little bit of that classic blue and gradients with me.

Photo of an iPod Classic. It’s showing the playback screen, with progress bar visible. The song is from Hiroshi Suzuki’s album Cat.

@misty Mobile devices really peaked right there.

@AmyZenunim They're just such great devices. Still really nice to use, and so easy to mod.

@AmyZenunim @misty 5th gens really are the perfect iPods.

I have the last one, the "Classic", which, don't get me wrong, 120GB from the factory is pretty sweet, but it really is my least favourite of the full-fat iPods. It's noticeably laggy, and the click wheel is kinda complete trash.

The sound quality is also noticeably not great, and I'm not even a golden-eared audio snob (320kbps is fine by me, lol)

@AmyZenunim @misty I gotta say though, I was very impressed to find that mine still holds a charge after about a decade in various junk drawers/boxes, and the original disk is still going strong somehow.

@misty I was thinking yesterday I hadn't yet bothered to look into replacing the battery on my iPod video (which I also can't find, it's somewhere in the office). Got my iPhone battery replaced at the Apple Store and for a few hours only had my 6th Gen nano to entertain me

@misty apropos, did you see that "in defense of pixels" talk that was floating around the last few days? Highly recommend it if not.

@misty I still got mine. Its screen is messed up and the battery probably lasts like 15 minutes total.

Photo of an iPod classic laying on a table. I don't know what generation it is.
It has a charging cable connected, and has the "connected" icon displaying.

@misty I’ve got a modded classic but the 5th gen is peak Apple.
