I need to refactor account deletion in @pixelfed
You'd think the huge warnings, after you have to re-enter your password, would make it clear
Yet, a significant amount of people come back, and want to re-use their old deleted account

Adam's, another tactic to make the user pay attention would be to ask them to enter something, e.g. their password or the username, not a plain checkbox that can be thoughtlessly checked. Like this: @dansup @pixelfed I would consider moving the “take a break” section down into its own CTA in green / yellow before the actual delete account step. And if folks click delete; show a modal giving final warning about it being irrecoverable action and have a green CTA again saying “never mind, just freeze my account instead” - a pattern like that have worked wonders for me at work when’re similar happened |
That's why you never ever delete accounts right away, you deactivate them and delete after a delay, giving the user enough time to reinstate their account in case they change their mind. In Smithereen this delay is 30 days.
