I had a pretty rough day and contemplated just giving up on @pixelfed because it seems like I can’t catch a break

But after calming down, I started to remember all the big milestones and the people who believe in our platform and in me

I’m not ready to give up, in fact this was the kick in the ass I needed to get my priorities straight and focus on shipping the app ASAP and also Groups

I’m a few months behind on my NLnet Groups milestone and need the money so that’s my focus after the app

@dansup @pixelfed I can't blame you: there is always another programming language or project right around the corner. I, too, get regularly doubts about whether I chose the right tools, paths and even goals.

Sounds odd but after a good night of sleep I usually calm down and become rational again. :BlobhajHeart:

@dansup @tizian @pixelfed A lot of really good devs struggle with ADD/ADHD. Your struggle seems similar. However there is a shitton of great work behind you nad honestly I am so giddy about the new app!

And also you and @Gargron and many more are in the forefront of the fight against monetizing algorithms that polarize our society and tear its fabric apart just to bring more profit to the shareholders. Fuck the haters.

@dansup @pixelfed I love to read you, not just about pixelfed (I do of course) and all your projects but about you as a person.

I like how you do things, how pasionate you are and how much time you spend in making all those ideas that go through your head reality little by little. It happens to me as well because I'm very much like you in that sense when I have an idea and I want to code it so somehow it won't get lost or forgotten. I can stay focused on that for days till it gets released and I can see the feedback from the people to know if I've done something good or wrong.

But you know, sometimes it's cool to stay aside a bit, go out, walk, hanging out with friends and family... and when you do sometimes you will notice you still think about those ideas, as if it was a drug, running through your head till you get to do them or like... you can't focus on other stuff.

It happens to me a lot, even leaving other things more important aside from real life.

But reality is that no one is going to blame you, no one has the right to blame you, no one is going to throw rocks at you for not doing a new feature, a bugfix in Pixelfed or if you don't make it in time with Loops or whatever... if you are like me, probably the most critical person with you is yourself, because everything turns into a personal achievement that you need to accomplish for yourself.

We are a community, we are here commited to help each other, support and have fun. What you do is very cool but please, don't forget to stay healthy, keep your ideas in order and of course, don't stop doing the great things you do, Dan. 💖

@trankten @pixelfed You are absolutely correct, but I have grown a lot over the past years, especially now I'm in a serious relationship.

When I started the v1 Pixelfed app in 2020, I got sidetracked by friends and my social life and I've lost the lead.

Seeing apps like BeReal and now Cara go viral is bittersweet, because I know we're on to something yet I've lost focus to the point that it's now detrimental that we ship the app

I love side projects, but yeah, need to focus on my core project

@dansup @pixelfed Just do whatever you feel you want to do and enjoy, but do it for yourself and not for anyone else :) don't feel stressed because people will always have different opinions or want different things than you.

Don't leave your relationship aside, my bf changed my life a lot on that matter. He made me focus on more important things of real life and learn how to leave online things aside sometimes, so if you're like me, stay next to those who support you daily, believe me, those are the ones who will always be by your side.

Pixelfed will shine, that's for sure, it's a matter of time because standard social media will fall within the next years, and when that happens a lot in your life will change (for best and worse), and that won't be easy either.

If you want to focus on your core project it's ok. I usually have a Kanban myself for my ideas and I try to finish one before I start with the next one and not many things going on at once, forcing me to finish stuff before starting a new one... but I fail at it a lot.

I have to manage some communities which involves a lot of stuff, programs, bots, code, servers and software. I have some things completely abandoned because I'm lacking off time, yet when I think about something new I can't stop myself from starting working on it.

Probably doing a restrospective of yourself will help you a lot as it did to me.

In any case, cheers to you on every project and every line of code you write, but never ever ever ever, forget the important things :)

Hey, really sorry to hear this. Please take care of yourself and go with what you feel is the best course on development. The work you've done is amazing!

The @gotosocial devs take regular pre-announced breaks where they do no development so that they can recharge, maybe you could do something similar? But you'll know you best, do what works for you.

I take regular breaks, almost every other day. I do need a vacation, but only after I have my house in order.

There is so much potential with our project, and now more than ever, it's crucial we ship our mobile app, otherwise I worry that we'll become a legacy platform that wasted their potential because of a stubborn perfectionist.

It's okay to have rough edges, now lets get this shipped 🚀

I'd love to assemble a team, and I think once the app is out, there will be more interest in our project.

I'm a pretty good maintainer (I think) and love contributions, so I think this is something to pursue so our project can grow faster and healthily!
