@andr01d There is an app for Pixelfed on F-Droid, it's just a community-made app: PixelDroid @dansup is there going to be a way to migrate any pictures we have on instagram over to Pixelfed? @stillnotahero: actually, you can do that - request data package in JSON format from Instagram, and import data to your Pixelfed instance of choice. It will take care of the rest. The only thing you still have to do is to convince people to move over. @stillnotahero @dansup PixelFed supports that already https://pixelfed.blog/p/2023/feature/introducing-import-from-instagram @stillnotahero export your data from Insta and then import them to pixelfed, see https://pixelfed.social/site/kb/import for details @stillnotahero There's already an onboarding process but IG throttles from what I understand.
[DATA EXPUNGED]
@dansup okay but I actually like it as it's a perfect opportunity to decide whether to continue scrolling or not, check the time and what else I wanted to do that night after catching up with all the cool cosplayers I follow.... or just to get a cup of water, answer a discord message etc 😂 I like it lol. It's a natural decision point ;3 @UkeBLCatboy @dansup Instagram already has those without the forced ads! You can set a reminder for when you've been in the app for X minutes and then it will cover your screen and say "time to take a break?" with an option to dismiss. @UkeBLCatboy Agreed, kind of breaks the muscle memory of tapping "dismiss" automatically Welp, there's the future(?) feature hint, @dansup ;P @enqfila @dansup I believe the EU also wants next to mandate some features to prevent addiction in social media apps, of course voluntary for users, but I'm 99% sure an option to enable a feature like that will be mandated in a few years. xD (voluntary, of course. But that it must be available for people who want it). @dansup I hope #instagram does that thing where they use the camera to ensure the user’s eyes are properly looking at it for the timer to run. @dansup I like this, but I’m reminded of those craigslist ads asking people to come pick something up for free that never get anyone show up, because people associate the cost with the quality of the product. A $20 mini fridge is a steal, but an identical $0 mini fridge must be junk. The people who would be attracted by crowdfunded social media will react to “free” with skepticism, and the people who don’t care will just stick with Facebook. Mention how it’s funded and it becomes interesting. @dansup This finally may be my incentive to ditch #instagram. Every day I am getting closer. No #ads and no #algorithm and an overall healthier #experience. |
@dansup I hope your app takes off, even though I'm not a user 👌
