If you run a #hometown server and would like to be added to the list of servers on the wiki, please let me know! (or add it yourself if you like but you need a github account)

The idea is to help people find Hometown servers to go to, and to help me get a sense of what kind of communities are using my software.

@darius how does hometown differ from mastodon?

Ben

@darius Feel free to add avantwhatever.org :)

NowWeAreAllTom

@darius I just created labyrinth.social this week. Right now it's a 1-user hometown server but I'm hoping to invite 5-20 close friends of mine by the end of 2022. Similar in ultimate intent to friend.camp I think.

I'm not sure whether you want very small, forever-closed instances on your list but if so feel free to add.

I love what you're doing with Hometown and I'm especially grateful for runyourown.social/. Thanks!

@darius Feel free to add mellow.zone :)

Ikora

@darius Hi Darius, maybe this is user error and I don't want to put any extra work on you, but could you tell me how best to approach making the changes myself? I tried checking out the wiki itself and making the changes in a branch, but I don't have permission to create remote branch... Then forked the main repo and the wiki didn't come with it... Am I doing something totally wrong here? Thanks! (I am trying to add ubuntu.buzz as a hometown server on the md file)

@ikora turns out GitHub wikis are really weird and actually only "contributors" to the project can edit. I can add you server!

Ikora

@darius That's OK. Here's my row in the table: |[ubuntu.buzz](ubuntu.buzz/about) | Ubuntu.buzz is a community created and managed by a black femme to connect with people and learn from each other. | yes (with review) |

L.J. but extra nerdy

@darius thanks so much for your work on Hometown, Darius. I stole Ikora's format for WriteOut's entry:

|[WriteOut.Ink](writeout.ink/about/more) | WriteOut is a small instance for writers to form connections and improve in our craft.| yes (by invite) |

@darius this is the first I'm hearing of #hometown; it sounds like a cool project! I like the idea of having "local only" posts which can be within a trusted community (especially the "forming in-jokes" part 🤪)

@darius 🙋 I'm a closed / invite only instance, currently home to only my own accounts, so don't really _need_ to be listed, but I selected Hometown for my server as I've left big social.
