Gregory's ServerFred, I personally chose Java because this is the language I know best. It isn't without its flaws, but I'm okay with them. In all these years, I learned to live with them. Using an unfamiliar language for a project this ambitious would be asking for trouble. Same goes for most other open-source projects, imo.
