Our Wikipedia page is at risk of being deleted because it may not meet notability guidelines.

Can we get some help?

We're not that familiar with Wikipedia or its processes, but we think our project is notable enough for inclusion.

@pixelfed I can perhaps help. Do you have any links to reputable news articles that have independently written about you? (No interviews)

Stemy

@pixelfed Maybe you could use the french version for inspiration, this one hasn't been flagged for lack of notability.

@pixelfed

it might help if you listed how many users you have ?

Alix Guillard

@pixelfed it looks like the banner is gone now. That was quick.

@pixelfed Basically, you'll need to show some mainstream news articles about your project to the admins/whoever maintains the article. I'm not super involved in the wikipedia project, but as far as I know, that's a big part of it.

jade

@pixelfed Looking at the talk page it looks like people are trying to establish notability right now

Just a reminder that contributors to your project should not be editing your Wikipedia page

Perhaps you can collect some information from here.

The lemma (articles) about #fediverse in #wikipedia is very poor in all languages.

Users of #mastodon , #friendica , #hubzilla , #pixelfed and others should write articles in #wikipedia to advertise #fediverse.

Basic internet users do not know the fediverse!

Try to find a wikipedia mentor for support.

Will open a german language version in wikipedia in the next few days.

Another thing to consider is that the page currently looks a bit too much like a promotion blurb by the owners of the project. Try to find an independent person to edit it to sound more neutral.

@pixelfed tbh, i think that should be wikipedia’s decision. update: i read the entry and it’s nice. i hope they leave it in.

@pixelfed
It would help increase its notability (a Wikipedia page requirement), if there was a community behind it.

@pixelfed This is strange: I don’t see the notability guidelines tag on the page…

@pixelfed Perhaps some help from @wikipedia @wikimediafoundation @wikimediafoundation ? (Wikipedia has an own instance here and should know the Fediverse).

Sadly, they delete people and companies all the time. Good luck to you.

@pixelfed for those asking what "notability" means here, hopefully this helps if you scroll far enough to reach this reply. I'll be your personal search engine today.

@pixelfed it’s not notable by English Wikipedia standards. You need more sources that aren’t blogs, self-published, and PR related. They don’t appear to exist, yet.

While you're waiting for someone who knows what they're talking about...

Lose any references to things written by the pixelfed project (I only saw one).

Then make certain that everything the article says can be found in one of the references. Delete any statement that can't be found there.

Shoq

@pixelfed That’s absurd. It’s more than notable enough. They are typically more specific about what the article needs. Sounds like someone doesn’t like Pixelfed. Have you pursued all the standard dispute protocols already?

F*%king deletionists. We had the same problem with the fediverse article when it was created. I once had to recreate the article for Tara Hernandez after it was deleted;

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AT

What we need is links to publications with an editor (ie not blogs, forum threads etc), which are about PixelFed, not just mentioning it in passing.

Can anyone help?

@pixelfed Wikipedia's rules for "notability" are ludicrous. A project like Pixelfed will be deemed by some self-important twit as "not notable" while there's 15,000 pages of information on a background character in a video game…

Technically you can appeal this, but thatt involves a bureaucratic war with people who can cite every obscure Wikipedia rule from memory. You basically need to find one of those who's on your side to win.

The best thing is to collect a list of references to PixelFed.

Update: I checked the page and noticed there are many good references. But for sure we need more mainstream media to talk about PixelFed. Books or Academic papers would be great.

I don't know what is the basis for removing the page. Please share where it is discussed.
