Fucking Boeing

EDIT: Got this from @pluralistic yesterday's blog post https://edition.cnn.com/travel/boeing-737-max-passenger-boycott/index.html The hydraulic system broke, we landed safely and are now being towed but it’s never a pleasant experience when a pilot has to say “don’t panic”. Luckily, most airframe have an APU to backup hydraulic failures but that is the last layer of defense for this type of failure. So glad you are safe! @Gargron Glad you're OK. @Gargron Oh shite, glad you’re OK! The asshole CEO already stepped down, but that doesn’t fix this whole mess. So we shouldn't be concerned anymore by the "bus factor" of Mastodon, but now by the "boeing factor" ? Boeing Joke 1/3 A group of Boeing employees are sitting on a plane getting ready for takeoff. Immediately, the Boeing employees all scramble to get out of their seats and off the plane as quickly as possible. It's utter pandemonium in the aisles as everyone starts to panic. @Gargron The chance of this happening is so low, but the frequency of things happening with Boeing planes is going through the roof. Risk assessment of picking flights by aircraft manufacturers is suddenly on the table when flying commercial. @Gargron Might have also been a maintenance issue. Even if Boeing had no flaws, a lot of those systems need to be kept maintained @Gargron What flight? Not seeing this incident in the Aviation Safety Network database yet: https://aviation-safety.net/ @Gargron Glad to know you and the other passengers are safe! Maybe the Mastodon plushie you had with you brought you some good luck? @Gargron “My ‘don’t panic’ pilot’s uniform is raising a lot of questions that should be answered by my uniform.” @Gargron @Gargron You do realized that jets are designed with multiple redundant hydraulic systems so that this isn't as big of a deal as you try to make it. @Gargron "don't panic" is just about the worst thing to say if you don't want someone to panic. incidentally great if you want them to panic "The hydraulic system broke" "A" hydraulic system broke. Civilian transports are designed with three. Yes, it's an emergency and they are required to land at first opportunity, but it's not an "OMG we're going to die!" situation. They train for that. I say this as one who wants the top 346 execs at boeing fired, one for each of the people their deadly-as-designed 737 maxes killed. @Gargron The question would be "which one?", since most planes have something like three hydraulic systems, and all important control surfaces can be moved by more than one of them. The answer is probably hidden in that "now being towed", because it likely means that they lost the one which controls the on-ground steering; someone who knows the details of that plane model can tell by that which hydraulic system broke. @Gargron One of those rare cases where I don't know what's going on, and I don't need to in order to strongly agree! |
@Gargron What's up?
