@pixelfed @loops I just really hope you will keep in mind the challenges that this might incur on the fediverse in th design of this.
I do generally see two issues which will arise with this. The first obviously being adoption. You cannot really run this from a homeserver, since bandwidth might become a problem fast with video-content (that is if you not have some symetrical line at home)
Nothing you can do about that obviously. But this might lead to these instances only popping up on datacenter-based VPS oder some colocation servers making starting one a bit more difficult since you might need one. Also depending on what hosting you have datalimits might become a problem really fast as well.
The other problem I might see arising is media-caching on some instances. A lot of instances cache remote-media so they to don't have to pull it from remote every time someone looks at it. Though this behaviour will lead to caching of the videos as well I suppose. That might overwhelm the storage of some servers really quickly.
