@fullfathomfive

So often I'm the only person where I am in a wheelchair.

@fullfathomfive
Yep. Exactly. Nobody wants to spend the $ to make their businesses accessible. Gov'ts do not want to help as much as they "blah, blah, blah" about how much they support accessibility.

Chronocide

@greybeard @fullfathomfive Most governments are required by law to have accessible digital services and there have been successful lawsuits against governments regarding accessibility.

@fullfathomfive šŸ™ Let's make Mastodon and other platforms more accessible for everyone, together :boost_animated:

People need to understand that they are only temporarily abled. Our faculties are fragile. We could lose them in an instant to an accident or just because of our genetics. But even barring that, we will certainly lose them as we age.

Even purely out of selfishness, sooner or later, #accessibility becomes important to *everyone*.

@fullfathomfive We need to stamp ā€œIf you build it, they will comeā€ onto every architect and designerā€™s forehead.

@fullfathomfive The shitty cycle continues & we keep fighting against it āœŠļø

@fullfathomfive making things accessible for those like wheelchairs also help with scooters and bikes and other wheeled things

@fullfathomfive thereā€™s levels of disability too: my daughter has very high support needs, so activities and facilities that claim to cater for disabled people often donā€™t cater for her: we need hoists for toiletting, swimming, using beach chairs, etc. she needs a mashed/liquid diet. She needs to avoid infection

I did my best to ā€œmanageā€ for many years, to give her the best life and involve her in the community, but now I have long covid, and I no longer have the energy

fullfathomfive

@oftencalledcathy I'm so sorry you have long covid. It sounds like an impossible situation for you as a carer.

It's so shitty that our society decided it was fine to destroy the lives of so many people, because people who have no concept of our interdependence on one another didn't want to be mildly inconvenienced.

@fullfathomfive thank you, luckily Iā€™m a lot better than I was

@fullfathomfive the Nation State hides it's insufficiencies in duties to citizens it can't fulfil, poverty is the same template.
