I learned this morning of the passing of Akira Toriyama, the father of Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, designer of Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger. Also, probably the artist who influenced me the most when I started drawing. Here is an old fan art I drew of Arale. My heart is really heavy this morning...

@davidrevoy I just used to watch his works as a child a lot. So yeah its really a bummer.

Also there is this trend of mangaka really overworking themselves and dying relatively early.

You could make a fortune but not have any time to spend any of it.

@davidrevoy Oh no, I didn't knew!
A lot of Dr. Slump-quotes are still part of my daily life. And I will always remember how hard I laughed about the guy with the magical running socks who had lost one of them and was running in a circle. I love that panel.

@davidrevoy

I didn‘t expect me to be this sad about a death from someone I didn‘t know personally.
I have to thank him for a lot of great childhood memories and beyond….

@davidrevoy oh wow. Yeah. What a formative element of my younger years. Dragon Ball and Chrono Trigger are core memories. What a man and what sad news.

That picture is lovely by the way.

@davidrevoy thank you for posting about this. He is one of the biggest names in anime, and will be missed dearly.

I have a soft spot for Dragon Ball and Arale, and love your artwork.
