@rogueren @frameworkcomputer That only works if the receiving device is capable of handling DisplayPort signals.

Or the transmitting device is capable of outputting HDMI signals over DisplayPort.

At least in the case of passive cables.

In the case of active cables, yes it would be possible, but active cables are quite expensive, about ~ 10 USD vs ~ 2 USD for a manufacturer.

Not to mention, the licensing fee to the HDMI forum in the case of passive cables.

@rogueren @frameworkcomputer And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend the manufacturers here.

But for them there is no incentive to migrate to DP compared to HDMI. Other than more costs.

Now the story becomes a whole different story if the HDMI forum increases their licensing fees.
