One of my favorite YouTube videos from 2009 about the internet, technology and media, predicted that smart phones would be the primary device in 2020.

Should I post the full video?

@dansup sure! I'm a bit sad about how many of those devices have keyboards and we have practically none today

I still can't understand how something that's so frustrating to type on can be someone's primary device ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Like why would one voluntarily use their phone when they have a laptop in the same room

@grishka most people aren't java developers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@grishka @dansup not everyone, especially those in developing countries, can afford laptops!

@dansup Link, please!

There is a book - series, actually, fiction - that started in I think the late 80’s, I read it in the 90’s, and it NAILED the rise of personal-pocket-communication AND the resulting social media hellscape we now have. A couple years before TB-L figured out a hyperlink.

I find reviewing these prescient things fascinating, if a little depressing.

@dansup Oh, those days of innocence! Quite a trip.

The crack about “when was the last time you read a newspaper in the bathroom” reminded me of a very early viral tweet ca. 2009-ish … “The iPhone has totally changed the way I poop."

@dansup this is certainly true in developing countries, mobiles being the primary device people use to get online.

@dansup it happened sooner than 2020 too!
