Gregory's Server@pixelfed I think DMs could be a notification that could be pushed, as users might use pixelfed to keep in touch with family and may want to know when they get DM'd.
Or maybe make it an option?

@geotechland DMs are a notification! The big difference is that we only show you DM notifications from people you follow unless you navigate to the Settings -> Privacy and check "Receive Direct Messages from anyone"
