@danhon @Meyerweb I love how the German is always awkward and wants an extra line

Eric A. Meyer

@thomasfuchs @danhon Especially given how that description seems much more quintessentially British!

Dan Hon #xoxofest

Started putting these in a Flickr album:

flickr.com/photos/danhon/album

DO NOT REPLY WITH A SUGGESTION FOR ME TO UPLOAD THEM SOMEWHERE FOSS

Andrew Feeney

@danhon You should print these out and put them in a photo album.

Luis Villa

@danhon (switching immediately to the first client that offers these as a macro with proper alt-text)

Ryan Bateman :blobpats:

@danhon "Do not reply to tell me the problem is capitalism."
I... I know.
I know.
I. Know.

Richard Hendricks

@danhon How open "OPEN THIS POST ON MY INSTANCE TO SEE ALL REPLIES BEFORE ADDING YOURS"?

gws

@hendric when your instance doesn't communicate thread contents correctly, everyone's experience gets a little worse

6. Do not reply to teach me about capitalism or enshittification. I know.

An informational message to manage replies. It reads:

DO NOT REPLY TO TEACH ME ABOUT CAPITALISM OR ENSHITTIFICATION. I KNOW.

ANTWORTEN SIE NICHT, UM MICH ÜBER KAPITALISMUS ODER ENSHITTIFICATION ZU UNTERRICHTEN. ICH WEISS.

NO RESPONDAN PARA ENSEÑARME SOBRE CAPITALISMO NI ENSHITTIFICACIÓN. LO SÉ.

NE RÉPONDEZ PAS POUR M'APPRENDRE SUR LE CAPITALISME OU L'ENSHITTIFICATION. JE SAIS.

7. Do not reply to tell me you don't have this problem

An informational message to manage replies. It reads:

DO NOT REPLY TO TELL ME YOU DON’T HAVE THIS PROBLEM

ANTWORTEN SIE NICHT, UM MIR ZU SAGEN, DASS SIE DIESES PROBLEM NICHT HABEN

NO RESPONDAS PARA DECIRME QUE NO TIENES ESTE PROBLEMA

NE RÉPONDEZ PAS POUR ME DIRE QUE VOUS N'AVEZ PAS CE PROBLÈME
Dan Hon #xoxofest

Most of these are more specific versions of the “This is an observation / do not attempt to help / no reply necessary" first, general one, it seems.

a spooky jazz dad..

@danhon i think it's fine to spell it out for people who may not get it.

Dan Hon #xoxofest

it would be more efficient to have reply-sticker-generator dot org

but i'm sure i have, like, actual work to do

Dan Hon #xoxofest

idk, seems like people want better ways / more options to manage replies

@danhon I love mastodon, but also I turned off notifications from people I don't follow a long time ago and it made me love mastodon a lot more. Even more granularity/control over this kind of thing would be amazing.

mhoye

@danhon You're doing the lord's work here sir.

@danhon I'm curious to find a German word for "mansplaining".

Maybe “Männerkonzeptsrückerklärung”

@janl what do you think?

Jens Scholz ⍟ replied to Thomas

@thomasfuchs @danhon @janl it's mansplainen in German. We use the same expression. The sentence in German should read
"antworten Sie nicht, um mir meinen eigenen Beitrag zu mansplainen."

Thomas 🔭🕹️ replied to Jens Scholz ⍟

@jensscholz @danhon @janl well yeah, but I feel like there should be a over-the-top German word for this, because reasons

Laura

@danhon ES: No mainsplainearme mi propio post

Iwillyeah

@danhon

Do not reply to make this post about something other than what I have said it is about.

Do not reply with a conspiracy theory seeking to explain bias as something other than bias.

Pithy, they ain't, but the amount of replies I see on other people's posts that need this said to them does my head in. (I never post things interesting enough myself to get reply guys✌️)

blaine

@danhon similar to "you don't have this problem" but possibly useful would be "DO NOT REPLY TO TELL ME TO RTFM [WITHOUT INCLUDING A SPECIFIC, RELEVANT, AND HELPFUL CITATION]"

Sara Joy :happy_pepper:

@danhon I was gonna say, the blue one says 'no reply necessary' but maybe we also need a simple DO NOT REPLY.

Andrew Feeney

@danhon Huh, this never happens to me. 🤷‍♂️

Alaric Snell-Pym

@danhon is that really a thing? I've never seen people do that!

DELETED

@danhon
"apprendre sur" is translated word for word, we do not say that. More like "Ne répondez pas pour me faire la leçon sur le capitalisme"

keithzg

@danhon Of course not, you should use Free Softw

hnapel

@danhon

Do not reply with off-topic comments.

Styx

@danhon I totally agree of the need of this one in some context, but can you make the reverse one too 🤔

"Do not reply to tell me to use paid / proprietary software"

Because in some case you simply cannot be approved for an external soft that might fit the need perfectly but can't be billed or approved if not fully auditable

Julia Evans

@danhon i feel like we could use a "do not reply doing the exact offensive thing I am objecting to, except as a "joke"

Chris is.

@danhon If you hadn't already beaten me to it, I was going to suggest "Don't reply to tell me to use open source software”

Honestly, I could do without the whole field of “well, I hate the software you're using" replies.

(Brilliant stuff, thanks for these!)

Chris is.

@danhon Mostly I wish I could save these images with built-in alt text so that I don't have to re-describe them every time I use one :D

Esther is looking for a server

@danhon is it ok if I put these on a little cookie-less website with ready-to-copy alt text?

Dan Hon #xoxofest

@esther btw have had multiple suggested edits for improved language translations

Mommy Citron

@danhon

ooh :neocat_surprised:
this is very nice, thank you! :blackheartsparkle:

maybit

@danhon @Meyerweb
Grammar: you missed the accord of the adjective: "Ne pas répondre pour nier mon expérience vécu**e**"
Improvement suggestion:
"Ne pas répondre si c'est pour nier mon expérience vécue"

Great one that said ❤️ - I hope it will be of help to some 🌈 🖤

Dan Hon #xoxofest

@maybit @Meyerweb Thanks for the edit, blame quickly using Google Translate :)

DELETED

@danhon @Meyerweb
Typo : "expérience vécue" (feminine), or also "expérience de vie" (possibly more idiomatic in the context)
