I just learnt that you can rename your audio devices in KDE Plasma. Much better!

#Linux #KDE #Plasma

Screenshot of the Audio Volume popup menu in KDE Plasma:
Tabs: Devices, Applications
Radio button: HDMI, Slider: 89%
Radio button: 3.5 mm, Slider: 90%
Radio button: G935 Headset, Slider: 90%
Separator line
Radio button: 3.5 mm Microphone, Slider: 100%
Radio button: G935 Headset Microphone, Slider: 92%
Switch: Raise maximum volume

I did it wrong already: "HDMI" is in fact actually DisplayPort.

DisplayPort can carry audio?! 🤯

@fell

Audio panel in Plasma is really awesome.

I started regularly donating about a year ago. I am now supporting 8 different projects with 20,77€ per month, and it didn't hurt at all.

Why pay for something free? Because free software only exists because other people already paid for it. Someone has to do it. It's time to do your part!

If you can afford a subscription service, then you probably can afford a little donation, too. Start with 0.1% of your income.

Check out @Liberapay or @opencollective

A social media post image with the headline:
Are you paying monthly for some of these?
Followed by the logos of Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify and Discord.
Then, another headline:
Consider donating to some of these:
Followed by the logos of: Debian, XFCE, KDE, GNOME, postmarketOS, Inkscape, Pixelfed, Mastodon, F-Droid, GIMP, Arch Linux, Linux Mint, Liberapay, Matrix, Syncthing and PeerTube.
There is also a remark at the bottom of the image: Disagree with my selection of projects? Make your own version of this graphic by editing the original from https://furbasik.de/consider-donating.svg

@fell @Liberapay @opencollective I would but at the moment I donate to andysplace.org.au/ which provides food for the homeless and savelife.in.ua/en/ which helps Ukraine fight Russia.

To think if house prices weren't absurd and Russia didn't invade Ukraine I could be donating to a lot of other places instead.

@fell @Liberapay @opencollective The biggest problem with small donations is comparatively big transaction costs: github.com/opencollective/open
Credit card companies benefit the most out of open source donations.
It's a mystery to me why this issue isn't solved yet as the benefit is huge. As stated in the comments this would have saved about $30,000 (if the transactions didn't grow since 2019) in Stripe fees for 2-5 days of work if this feature was implemented when the bug was opened.

@fell @syncthing Works relatively reliable for me - and I guess the hickups I have are based on my inability to read the documentation.
Other than that, this tool is a lifesaver for anyone who wants to transfer data quickly from one device to others.

@fell @syncthing while in certain cases.. its a bit aaaa (For example, my 50GB+ Music folder, syncthing... well, I found it easier rsyncing it across syncthing devices, and *then* start syncthing, then syncthing worked fine for smaller added amounts)

Aside from that.. I have found syncthing to be mega convenient. It's also nice that there are also clients for Solaris, NetBSD, Android, and more. Just lovely. Can even run it on kobo devices apparently.

I gave KDE Plasma Mobile another go. It improved a LOT over the past few months. No crashes yet! It's a lot more stable now. Although not as stable as Phosh.

I like their whole "just copy Android" philosophy. Everything feels familiar and intuitive. I might keep it like this.

@fell I play with it once in a while on (always dusty at that point) PinePhone. Every release makes it more stable and faster. Me likey.

@fell What popular apps are on Discover? Can Snap and Flatpak applications be installed?

@fell Do you still have to manually switch audio output if you attach headphones?

This panel by @davidrevoy captures my ultimate #tabletop #RPG fantasy. I've had plenty of sessions online, but I would kill for a comfy weekend playing #PenAndPaper with a bunch of friends.

I don't care that I'm almost 31. I want this!

Digital painting: 3 girls (young witches) are sitting in a very comfortable looking bedroom. They are surrounded by lots of dice, papers, candles, figurines, books, coins, fruit, mugs. They all wear pyjamas. The rightmost girl is saying: "Come now, Don't pout! I know you're only trying to defend me... ... but there's no need, we're only playing!"

@fell @davidrevoy I'm reminded of the joke about D&D being attractive to people due to the availability of long rests :)
