@Gargron Ruth Radelet's (of the Chromatics) music video for Stranger was shot on 16mm. Released a year ago.

@Gargron
I don't think so.

I'd bet a lot of money it was shot digitally, and made to look like film. And they did a bad job, throwing every bad film filter they could find at it.

Portions of most frames are way to sharp and clean to be shot with film cameras that have so many other problems.

Sorry

@Gargron On the other end of the musical spectrum, Knocked Loose did their newest video entirely on film.

@kjhealy as someone who saw first hand the carnage left by lambda (my wife went there before they rebranded), I can say with 100% certainty that I don’t want to see them fail because I’m jealous. I want to see them fail because their whole business model is built on lies.

A terrific investigation at @WIRED finds that Perplexity scrapes and (sometimes with bullshit added) summarizes web sites that it has been explicitly told, by those web site owners, not to visit

Taken in the stunning Stanley Park after a winter storm allowed for thick fog to accumulate and infiltrate deep into the forest.

This has ended up being one of my best sellers too, along with its alternative vertical orientation.

@geoff_eg beautiful image, gotta love a foggy forest scene, especially such a powerful one with the massive tree in the foreground!

Michael Russell

@geoff_eg Very nice! I hope that tree is still there.

Journalists are massively misunderstanding what the 'Threads API' actually is.

It's not for third-party clients, it's for automation & marketing. You can’t access a timeline via the API, or do search, or anything like that. It's for posting, reading replies, and replying to replies of a post. Bots and CRMs

"You may use the Threads API to enable people to create and publish content on a person’s behalf on Threads, and to display those posts within your app solely to the person who created it.”

Lex Friedman

@stroughtonsmith I'm struggling to figure out how to use it for automated posting for a single account, because it seems to want to force you to show a screen to get a token.

It could be that I'm being stupid, though.

Edit to add: since people are still boosting this, I should mention the deadline has now passed so you can longer register. If you've missed the deadline and feel strongly maybe think about volunteering with favoured your local candidate's campaign team!

UK people! Today is the last day you can register to vote! It's very simple, just fill in the form at gov.uk/register-to-vote

Grainydays video on the new #Pentax17. A half-frame camera is not for me, but I very much hope it is for someone. #BelieveInFilm

Sturmflut

@Gargron I only do digital and had never heard the term "half-frame" before the news articles about this camera came out, so at least I learned something new.

Boris Karnikowski

@Gargron With all those great cameras still around which are older than we are (well, most us): I am not getting it. Half frame is not cutting it. Usability looks weird (exposure compensation wheel).

pcbeard

@Gargron weird camera. Guess I’ll stick with my ancient F3.

Film photography is enjoying a comeback and Pentax is here to take advantage of the trend with its first film camera in decades. Our early impressions suggest Pentax chose its moment wisely. pcmag.com/news/hands-on-pentax

In an "underdog making a last minute comeback" level plot twist, after days of neglect and abandonment, the little cooling mat has now been deemed worthy.

@arstechnica This is akin to how FOSS projects if done well have a trust-less system. Analogously, this is Proton ensuring that nothing can and will happen to it in the future as well as they grow to avoid bad actors, takeovers, and other bad things. We don't necessarily have to to trust Proton and it's management or change in leadership because this new system won't allow anything bad to happen to it in any way.

Official statement from @Mer__edith: the new EU chat controls proposal for mass scanning is the same old surveillance with new branding.

Whether you call it a backdoor, a front door, or “upload moderation” it undermines encryption & creates significant vulnerabilities.

@signalapp @Mer__edith Thanks for being strong in your privacy oriented stance.

@signalapp @Mer__edith When will politicians learn that you can't un-invent mathematics?

Patrick Breyer

@signalapp @Mer__edith We still have one day to stop this #ChatControl mass surveillance madness, especially if you're from IT, FI, CZ, SE, SV, EST, GR, PT. Act NOW: patrick-breyer.de/en/council-t
